It’s funny, cus my first build had a 3070TI in it and all I was going to do with it is run FNV, Skyrim, Fo4 and a few other indie games.
Young and stupid perfectly displayed there.
I upgraded my CPU and and GPU for Starfield, and because it was a nightmare to manage my VRAM for more demanding games.

I remember the first computer I ever built back in the early nineties. I would have killed to have the insane amount of resource available to the average consumer on today’s market.
I’m always confused when for a lot of people It’s the first large purchase they’ve ever made. But they literally do zero research on it.

I spent about 9 months researching and looking for the best deals possible for the equipment I wanted. All in all I’ve spent about 1400 dollars. Pcpartpicker had it at 3 grand, before the drop in DDR5 and M.2s. Still need another set of ram.

I had a friend recently ask if a 13400 with a 360 mm aio that was over half of the price his cpu would be a good pair. He was also planning on putting in an RTX 3060. To put a cherry on top, he said the only game he was going to use it for was Minecraft.

Recently helped my friend build his gaming rig for the first time.
Motherfucker, we spent 2.5k and every dollar of it was spent on getting the most out of his specs. He now has an absolute unit of a PC and won’t need to upgrade for at least 2-3 years save for maybe an extra SSD because I invested in M2s so we could data recover his old drives.
Edit: I should clarify this is AUD, not USD or CAD.
I just don’t understand the GPU vs CPU thing. Specially for people that are playing at 1440p.
7800X3D + 4070 when you could be doing 7600 + 4070ti. The later is going to give you higher fps if you’re playing at 1440p (which, unless you’re an FPS or racing gamer, I’ll hope you are after spending $500+ on a GPU.)

My friend irl, he spent like 700 CAD on the mobo cpu and ram, his whole PC was 1400.
I did the opposite, I spend 1100 on mine and wayyyyyyyy underspent on the mobo and case. I got an rtx 3080 used for 500 CAD with a r5 5600

I mean with my first ever PC I did have these blatant mistakes. Paired an i5-7400 with a measly 1050ti.
But the half updated rig I have now holds up pretty well, could’ve gone with a ‘better’ gpu for sure but I got my 3060ti for such a good price I couldn’t miss out on it.
And now this bad boy runs anything pretty well and based on benchmarks from different games and programs, cpu and gpu usage is quite close whatever I use it on.
