Been thinking of getting something to customize the inside of my pc and came across these plates. Have any of you bought some before and will they overheat your gpu?

About 8% bad. They might screw with heat dissipation on certain cards, but generally not enough to be dangerous, and that’s made up for a bit by the fact that they keep dust off (and maybe leaky water cooling loops, too).

  2. It depends. Some are essential for VRAM temps, and some are just unnecessary design pieces.

  3. some cards do need the backplate for important cooling and you will hurt them significantly if you use one of those, but in most cases you’ll be OK

Plastic ones are just for looks, metal ones help slightly with temps but still mostly just for looks.

My brother in law got me a backplate for Xmas last year. It was made specifically not to interfere with the airflow on my 3080TUF, so it has not had a negative effect on my GPU temps. But this might vary between cards and backplate manufacturers.

Just a heads up I ran one for about two years and the LED’s left a white spot on the GPU where each one was. Like they burned a spot the backplate from being so bright.

Edit: why are you downvoting me for this?

You could get a whole azz graphics card for that price. I guess if you have like a 4090 and money is no object, otherwise I can think of about 100 more useful ways to spend another $50 on your PC setup.

I’ve had one for years. It’s pretty and it doesn’t effect Temps hardly.

I bought one from that exact vendor and they gave me pretty good service and the backplate has been fine for me

Also the backplate I got from that vendor isn’t a replacement for the GPU backplate but rather a piece that goes in top via little magnets to the screws. I’m not sure if the vendor has changed to a different style or compete replacement though since it’s been awhile.

Oh V1 Tech is great. I’ve used their GPU backplates for years. I think I’ve had 5 in total? GPU Temps have stayed the same and I’ve never had an issue outside of an RGB strip being DOA. They had a replacement to me in like 3 days and told me to keep the old backplate. I think it’s just a few dudes in Texas running this place.

I bought one a few years back and never had an issue

Unless it’s blocking airflow there’s basically zero chance of any tangible impact on performance, positive or negative.

..people who doesnt care about asthetic and leave it on the floor or at the back and will never see again those rig 🗿🗿🗿

I’ve had quite a few V1 Tech backplates myself, and I’ve has zero issues.

HehI have an Alan Wake II backplate won through Nvidia, I haven’t even plugged it in, and am considering trying to sell it since I’ll never use it. If you’re a fan of the game, I could see it, but I’m more a function over aesthetics kind of guy anyhow (I think the only RGB I have is the built in EVGA stuff on my current 3080XC3, as I’m waiting for my 4x8p to 12VHPWR adapter).

Donno about performance but that does look tacky
