That is not a 500W PSU. In fact, I’d barely call it a PSU. It has no input protection, no output protection, doesn’t seem to have an OCP controller (you’d see the shunts) or *anything* a PSU needs. Heck, there’s no class-Y capacitor, no inrush limiting, and I’m fairly sure those two resistors aren’t discharge resistors.
If you add up its current output, it can do 168 watts on 12 V, 70 watts on 5V, and 43 watts on 3.3V, which gets you to 281 watts. This is a common total for a 250 wat PSU: Even its label says it is not 500 watts!
Notice how it has no regulatory conformance marks. If you plug that in, you invalidate your home insurance and if you sell it, you’re breaking the law more or less anywhere.
Best used with salt, a stake, and a lawyer. Do not use that PSU.

Should have filled it up with fireworks powder instead of iron filings. At least that way when it goes up in flames, you’ll get a neat light show.

Weird thing to put in a power supply…but it is Chinese so I don’t think they care about safety regulations.

As bigclivedotcom would say: “That’s a quality feel weight.” I wonder why they bothered to put it in a transformer casing instead of using a simple slab of steel.
That is no computer PSU. Would make for a good cheap bench power supply for testing 5v or 12v electronics though.

This isn’t something that is legal to be sold in the USA/Canada or European markets.
Depending on where you are and where you purchased it, you are definitely within market protection and they will persecute the sellers.

Seeing the rest of the PSU I would call those metal fillings straight up shrapnel, get rid of it!!
Get a gold rated or above power supplies only
I do not see a PSU, only an IED with a cheap fan.
One thing you should never buy “cheap” when building a pc is the PSU. A bad PSU can damage everything else. Not to mention the fire hazard.
No, also NEVER under any circumstances open up a PSU unless you’re a fully qualified electrician and have all the appropriate tools to check and discharge the capacitors.
There is a 99.9% chance you’ll be fine and a 0.1% chance the capacitors still hold enough charge from testing to kill you if you touch the wrong place. If I gave you a bowl of 1000 m&ms and told you 1 was poison, most people would just not eat any.
PSU might be trash but the warning not to open is legit. I’m confident when it comes to electric, but I’d never mess around inside high powered devices like power supplies, microwaves, etc… especially cheap Chinese ones with likely little to no safety features.

That has to be the most scetchy “PSU” I’ve seen this year.
I don’t know to much about PSUs but this looks like it might burn your house down..

when we say buy “name brand” it doesn’t mean any brand 😅 reputable preferably
In Germany we call this psu a „China Böller“. A Chinese Firecracker and I think it’s beautiful.
