M17 R3 won’t take a charge. They told me the battery looks decent and it being a little puffy is normal ( which is fine and all ) but could this be the reason my laptop won’t turn on?
I was playing it takes two and I turned on the fans to max. Then I put the laptop on high-performance. It was on my bed, so I assume it was pretty hot and then it just turned off. I knew that the battery was probably on its way out because it didn’t hold a charge anymore but I was still able to use it while it was plugged in. Could the battery be the reason why it’s not turning on? Or do I have a bigger problem?
It just doesn’t seem to be a charge.

Battery is shot. Swelling in a battery is extremely bad. I would not continue to charge/use it in that state. The expansion of the battery also puts pressure on components inside the laptop and can cause damage if the swelling gets worse.
Worst case it will catch fire if continued use through the swelling (very rare, but possible).
That is 100% a r/spicypillows worthy battery. Don’t charge it or use it.
My dear brother in Christ, do not seek technical help from the imbeciles at Best Buy. Dispose of the battery immediately according to municipal guidelines. Please try to find someone who can help and advise you, preferably for free.
Disconnect the battery and take it out, I’d test if the laptop can run without a battery, if yes then you’ll just need to get a battery replacement (can be from dell which is surprisingly cheaper through their support though I’d look around on the internet. Also dell likes to shove you with their technicians, if it’s just the battery then you can easily replace it yourself)

Bro don’t use the laptop on your bed, especially for intensive tasks. Not only are you gonna overheat and throttle significantly (or damage your hardware), you’re taxing your fans while doing so. Ideally it should placed be on a hard surface, with the back raised, and monitor in the open position (if you use with an external monitor). There’s a good chance you’ve roasted your system to death, regardless of the battery. It should be able to power on even with the battery disconnected if it’s plugged in.
Another reason to avoid geek squad.
That battery needs replacement.

Looks decent… The hell are they smoking to think a puffed up lithium battery looks decent… I recommend immediately disconnect the battery and until you find a place to properly dispose of the battery, keep it somewhere out of the house where it cannot catch anything on fire when it does pop.
Edit- it might not pop but it’s best not take the risk.
