I’ve been saying that ever since launch. That said, Don’t Fear The Reaper is still my personal favorite ending. Me and my imaginary friend fucking Arasaka into the ground without endangering my friends? Fucking cash money, choom.
I doubt merging real personalities is as easy as artificial ones.
Yeah, basically a Ghost in the Shell ending, with Motoko and the Puppet master merging into one.
When they start hinting that V is picking up some of Johnny’s habits and mannerisms, I started wondering if that would be an option.
It would’ve been cool to maybe make it to where they randomly switch sides. Would be interesting to see a situation where V is in a life or death situation, and all of a sudden Johnny takes over and he ends up getting them out of it or something
I still don’t get why Alt didn’t do that once it was revealed that for some reason the Relic couldn’t write V’s body to match the new engram of V it had had written into it, something that itself is quite the plot hole. Alt’s supposed to be the best netrunner ever *and* has had the power of wild AI added on top of that and had already proved to be able to manipulate engrams.
IMO the fact it wasn’t an option was strictly because CDPR went into story writing with a “crapsack world” mentality. That means no possibilities of a non-shitty ending, even if it means doing things that don’t make sense within the context of what has been revealed throughout the story thus far. I know I tend to get a lot of negative responses to saying this but IMO the endings are extremely weak because of this. To have a “no happy endings” story you have to set it up from the beginning, not just create intentional plot-holes to make it work.
I wrote a post some time ago about alternative endings, one I said you just don’t accept either Alt’s or Hanako’s solution, let the Relic works and allow Silverhand take over V.
Aw man Don’t Fear the Reaper except you absorb Johnny at the end (or vice versa) like Piccolo and Kami. Y’all merge memories but still vaguely know what’s what. Every now and then Johnny can still chime in like the fuckin paper clip from Word. Ya dat’d be coo.
This is what I started to expect. Lean into the Ghost in the Shell route.
They were already close to it by the end, the barrier between was paper thin. Hellman says as much, that V would start hearing Johnny’s thoughts as their own. Likewise, had the process completed while Johnny would be the dominant and eventually only personality in the body, he had been influenced by V just as much.
How many events devolve into a spot of the old ultraviolence? Why is V carrying around cigarettes when they don’t smoke? I’ve played V as virulent anti-Johnny before, and some missions (like giving control to Johnny) only make sense to happen if your decision-making is being influenced. Johnny getting regretful over past mistakes and wanting to help Rogue and Kerry feels a lot like someone less psychopathic has been bleeding through.
How cool would it be if an ending like that would lead into a NG+ where JonV has to relearn everything about NC
