It’s annoying for me that a lot of characters always underestimate V’s capability as merc.

Your hardware can still be shit and make them kill them. You may slowly get poisoned because it is shit. It may easily break and need maintenance. It may create pain. Recharge way slower than it could. Want me to continue or you get the point that something working does not means it work as best as it could?

  2. I decided to kill Placide as soon as he said that

Well if you do these missions early, then V is just a nobody.

And Konpeki was a failure. Your choom got killed, and so did V. Whole thing ended up as a cluster fuck.

Placide is looking at Cyberware you may or may not have upgraded, and diagnosing V after they nearly died and probably reading a bunch of fucked up signals caused by the Relic and V’s body shutting down.

Your not really a legend until you beat Oda, Smasher, and complete one of the final missions. (And kick Maxtac’s ass, or NUSA elites)

Eh, it’s to be expected. V is a young self-starter who played backup to a perennial E or F-tier merc, and whose only notable achievement was to be the only survivor of what was otherwise a TPK, that most people suspect V escaped from because they abandoned the rest of the team. V survives mainly by doing the jobs that nobody else is insane enough to do, at a pace that puts any other merc outfit in the city to shame.

In other words, V comes out of nowhere after Konpecki and tears up the merc market. By the time anybody realizes V might have come out of the Konpecki furball because V is actually really, really good, V is already out of their price range as a member of the team. The pace and skill V demonstrates in the game is like if some guy spent a couple of years batting .200 in the AA leagues, only to be called up because of a ridiculous series of injuries to the Dodgers and started batting .450. It would take a while for expectations to be readjusted, and for a long time, people would be debating whether or not that player was really just benefitting from a ridiculous run of luck.

To be fair, Reed does, at one point specifically express that he is grateful someone like V is on his side.

Yeah, he confronts us in certain endings but no matter how strong V is Reed isn’t a coward.

Merc rating, much like Johnny meter and Relic Guage don’t mean/do shit.

Love the game but it absolutely has some easily identified flaws.

They don’t know I am naughty and I turned up with a Canto and an Apogee…

I think Rogue has a valid point but she also elaborates that V’s skillset is else where, more like a true Solo (akin to legends like Morgan Blackhand or Adam Smasher) than a regular merc, and V’s reputation that people who work with them tend to end up dead don’t tend to invite jolly cooperation. As for the Clouds lady it’s just a lot of lethaly misplaced bravado, a huge mistake, as you will. For Placide and Sol, I think they just talk shit to psych you out but I didn’t take that personal since one is out to protect his people, the other is a spy who plays mind games for a living.

I mean, I always assumed the game’s main story was written around the fact that you are only doing the story quests. Granted I haven’t checked, but I imagine your street cred level isn’t that high when you get to those points if you’re only doing the story.

Talking to Rogue or meeting Placide is supposed to happen fairly early. The player can do hardcore side-quest grind and have all legendary implants by that point but I’m pretty sure that V isn’t meant to be that OP yet.

Which is supported by Tom being able to knock V on their ass with the modified Doll Chip for example, Placide saying that V’s hardware is shit was likely correct lore-wise. V just makes up for it with their skill.

When Maiko says she can beat V with the Doll Chip she’s probably basing it on how Tom kicked their ass back in Judy’s apartment. Of course she’s not accounting for V holding back and getting a Relic Malfunction so she’s wrong but she doesn’t know that.

The fact that players can do hardcore side-quest grind and equip all legendary implants in every slot before doing those main story missions is besides the point, it’s not accounted for in the story,

  12. Just like the Dragonborn, killed the world eater, killed the emperor, destroyed dark brotherhood, be the thieves guild leader, and can yeet anyone ass with Fus Ro Dah, but still the citizens don’t recognize his/her capability.

As far I remember, TW3 handles Geralt’s reputation very well.

I’m more annoyed that we are just so much stronger and more powerful than any entity in the game. Like think how terrible our netrunning would be if it worked like how the enemies use it. Or imagine enemies headshotting us through walls with tech weapons. We get so much so much special treatment as player character that isn’t “lore accurate” that it’s very goofy. Like, of course these people don’t treat us like gods, why should they assume we are superman?

Street Cred and the Merc Meter just don’t really matter. It’s understandable that randos don’t know or care regardless but Fixers do gas you up a lot to other connected people at least

Also doesn’t help that it’s a limitation of development, they’d have to change a lot of interactions if they properly changed them to your achievements beforehand. The games development was already a mess

Rogue does give you gigs though. Unsure the exact requirements but she called me once I finished all the other Fixer gigs

Because there’s a difference between narrative and gameplay, the game needs the latter for the power fantasy otherwise the player will just be bored from the game.

  18. BrazilianAlmostHobo

I hope on the next game chars opnion on the main char change based on your street cred.

Also street cred should be way harder to get since it would unlock more dangerous gigs.

    We can only hope
