my steam download speed 2.4 mb/ps someone streaming youtube drop to 2 mb/ps 🙂 100 mbps is very fast i mean 6 gb minute 60 gb hours

No, it does not go to 100% when downloading unless you have a bad third party firewall that uses that much CPU at high transfer rates, or your LAN driver is borked and it is not properly offloading stuff to the LAN chip and CPU has to do that.
Or that is just decompression…
But yes, in other news… when moving to a new place the Tier List of priority is:
And one might argue 1 and 2 can be flipped around. You could just get a diesel gen to fix #1, but there is no real fix for #2 if it is missing. Only temporary hack might be a Starlink dish, but that requires a big open space, to see the sky, so not always feasible. And it is nowhere near gigabit…

I’m so incredibly thankful to have Fiber. Especially considering I live 20 minutes outside the city limits, surrounded by cows. One of the biggest lucky breaks ever.

But that speed isn’t really nearing the 1 Gbps limit, 108.3 MB/s is around 866 Mbps. Is it possible for the CPU to be the one causing it? But since that kind of usage is most likely to be coming from the Steam’s decompression, now im curious about it.
Or is it normal for your fiber to never/rarely actually hit the 1 Gbps limit overall on any devices?
Asking real curious questions here since it’s still years to come for my country to have gigabit internet for individual / home use. 😅
Even if let’s say I have the money to pay for gigabit subscription, 100 Mbps is kinda the limit here. Anything beyond that is strictly for offices/big groups/commercial like malls and whatnot.

i wonder if the cpu bottlenecks your internet speed to give itself time to decompress and install everything and/or the download doesnt give a flying fuck and keeps downloading at high speeds and let’s the cpu do its thing at its own speed

I have a i7 4770k on an almost 10 years old computer with a SSD on S-ATA.
I maxed out at almost 300MB/s (which is roughly 2,4Gbps) on the Frankfurt servers (I still have the screenshot).
The CPU is overclocked at 4GHz and was screaming the whole time (for the download alone, not talking about the extraction. I had the same with [fast.com](https://fast.com) where I went 9,1Gbps with all cores at 100 %).

Also, it’s very hard to max out your connection since most games download by “chunks”, so download, pause the download to extract and resume which doesn’t let the speed goes up enough. Only a few games allowed me to go that high, those who download the whole things in almost one sitting and then extract.

Some 20 years ago, with my first dsl connection and in the emule era, there was the belief that loading the CPU with intense workload would make downloading much faster. And it surely did, and it’s still puzzling me
