Very few games managed to hit me like The Tower ending did
SomeBoringKindOfName
People who know better than me will probably tell you that’s sort of a cyberpunk thing.

That’s pretty much what the creator’s vision was

What sucks, is that until Project Orion comes out, we won’t know for sure how the Sun and Star endings really panned out. I’m also curious of how they will deal with Arasaka and Militech in the sequel, if it takes place after 2077. >!Depending on the ending, their fates are wildly different. It’s going to be a long wait…!<

To answer OP’s question
Because life is shit and no matter how hard we try, at the end the only thing awaits is death and it’s up to us how we will go out.
Are you gonna die alone? a happily married man with bunch of kids? wealthy and famous? will you go out and be remembered as the hero? or rather most evil person of your time?
You don’t always need a happy ending, just make the bad one satisfying.

By far the most Hitting ending in my 43 years was shooting my head and not destroy the life of my friends…. By Far…

I hope that this is because this is the beginning of V’s trilogy.
I want recurring characters, I want raising of the stakes, I want to see the continuation of V’s story with the AIs, Peraleses, Mr. Blue Eyes, Aldecados, Biotechnica, Arasaka, etc.
If that’s their plan, then Cyberpunk 2077 would be lovingly remembered as a great beginning of a trilogy.

Welcome to Cyberpunk!
The genre, not the game specifically…
The punk genre is already known for bittersweet messaging and warnings of dystopia. Cyberpunk is a subgenre of punk where the forces of dystopia have already won and all any punk can do is try to throw as many monkey wrenches into the dystopian machine until it inevitably grinds them into a red mist.
Just like it did to Johnny.
Just like it did to David.
Just like it inevitably does with V.
It’s just part of the genre.
gutekx12
uhhh the star ending?
Phobix
It’s a dystopia. No happy endings, only moments in time.

start digging into the lore and you’ll realise, whether its a plot hole or on purpose, V is very likely to live post sun/star. Theres just too many in lore ways for them to survive. Everything from transferring their engram to a clone, using nanotech to reverse the damage, or a nomad clan that has better tech than any corp in the game. the star specifically is extremely hopeful.
Its actually thematic that people only really achieve happiness when they leave night city.
Also dont quite pay attention to people who say “because cyberpunk”, happy endings exist all over the cyberpunk genre, they’re just more “light at the end of the tunnel” rather than sunshine and rainbows.

Cyberpunk isn’t supposed to be happy, it’s a nihilistic, negative genre.

It puts the punk in Cyberpunk

People keep saying this but The Star is pretty upbeat and optimistic compared to all the other endings. Kind of spoils it.
Built4dominance
That’s tied to the cyberounk genre.
FlashyClaim
It might not be a happy ending, but the journey was FUCKING AMAZING.
