Best to screw it down, so it doesn’t loosen up. You can get replacement screws on Amazon for cheap. Although you can tape it down.

This is what I got, has screws and standoffs for all board brands, unless they use proprietary securing mechs.

Take a fitting screw from somewhere else. DVD drive have 4 but only needs 2.

It’ll work without the screw as long as it’s in the port all the way.
Find a screw. The little ones which some SATA drives use (2.5″) are the right threading. Your case probably came with a bag of them.
I wouldn’t tape it down, at least not permanently, but it won’t hurt temporarily.
The screw should be in a mobo’s box.
Did you lose it, or you don’t have the mb box with the accesories?
double tape from the bottom. dont use too much in case you need to remove it again. temporary fix
You’ll likely lose data if you don’t screw it down, they can be overnighted from Amazon usually.

Don’t use tape, that’s dumb. Use a screw. Tape will give out in a warm environment.

I run a pc repair shop in Vegas. People come in for these screws all the time. I just give them away. They are usually the same screws that hold a wifi card down in a broken laptop. I have a bag of them.

Not to ignore everyone else telling you to find a screw. But this looks like the new m.2 retainer design. You should be able to rotate the top so the flat side is parallel to the drive and the half moon is facing outwards. Then push the drive down and rotate that piece back so the half moon is now holding down the drive.

The screw is just mechanical lock. No need for normal usability. But you meed to lock in some way to ensure good contact with the connector.
OP you should use a screw tape is dumb now that I’ve said that let me tell you about my m.2 that I used tape on.
I used tape on a new m.2 because I didn’t have the screw (got a really good mobo from a friend for way under msrp and he forgot the screw). It worked fine and I ran it that way for like 3 months. I ordered some m.2 screws from Amazon but I was too lazy to put it in for a long time.

I had the same problem. My prebuilt PC didn’t have the screw here. I had an old wireless mouse that was ready to scrap. Disassembled that and found the needed screw. Saved $5.

Is it just me or everyone is blind? There is screw there. You need flat driver. If you compare the two holes, one is empty and one where is m.2 is just lifted, there is screw there.
