I like it. I’m usually playing a Twitch stream, Youtube video or TV show or something on my side monitor while doing things on my main screen and having it above would be nice.
Dream setup would be to have four monitors, main in front, then one above and one on each side. But I can’t afford that.

Really depends on what you’re doing. 2nd screen on top is great for streaming and watching videos while playing. A portrait oriented screen on the side is better for working with text. Just beware that your neck will get tired fast from looking up if you don’t have a proper ergonomic chair in which you could lie down.

I have vertical monitors, a 32″ 4k 144hz on bottom and a 28″ 4k 60hz on top. I only have them vertical because of my space constraints width wise. If I had the available space, I’d have them mounted side by side instead of vertical.

Really depends. Everyone mentioned different scenarios already, so I will throw another one. Working with this setup would be a nightmare, especially for software development. Imagine the neck pain going between the monitors constantly for reading something.

That exactly how mine are set up and I love it. For me, I don’t feel like I have to strain to watch the top monitor at all, it’s my 4k screen that I watch YouTube and twitch on and it’s fine.

Works great for me, I set them a bit further away and tilt the top one down a little more, so I don’t have to tilt my head to glance up at the top, and the top one is smaller (24” & 27”) so it don’t have to move my eyes around as much when looking at it.
I copied the setup from watching MVG’s older videos. I don’t stream or any of that stuff, but for getting some project work done – I love it.

I used to have a similar setup, but I changed after years of usage, it started to strain my neck, now I am better, but it causes pain when I try to look up.
Just be careful with that, otherwise it looks awesome.

I bought a new monitor last year and I entertained the idea of dual monitor (side by side)… and really besides the “I can have another thing while I game”, it was overkill… you should be trying to focus on one thing at the time, we are usually not very good at multitasking. Still I get why some people would use a multi monitor setup.

How do *you* prefer it? Personally, I’d never do a vertical monitor because I’d rather look sideways than tilt my head upwards to see the 2nd screen. That could cause some posture issues and I also think having monitors next to each other looks better than one ontop of the other.

It’s good situationally. I have an auto hotkey that swaps my left monitor and I move it back and when I need it. Default mode is horizontal though.

I did that in my previous setup. I didn’t have a lot of width for my workspace but still wanted 2 55” screens (and because it’s 55” mine was quite a bit higher).

Something like this. It’s.. okay, you get used to it. That said, I use second one mostly for stuff I don’t have to look at all the time.
Mine are set up like this and it freed up a ton of space on my desk. Worth it
