NVMe, as a space-saver, started out good. As a thermal situation, it was never a good idea to put an SSD on the motherboard…let alone SSDs that now run so hot that they not only are starting to require their own bigger heatsinks (thereby cutting on space) but sit right next to absolutely massive heat generators (GPUs).
The whole “throw the kitchen sink at it and damn the wattage” philosophy has gotten *way* out of control. At what point does someone stop and realize this road we’re going down is truly asinine and they make GPUs more power-efficient and give off less heat, and while we’re at it NVMe SSDs, instead of putting a heatsink that’s *bigger* than the SSD itself on it, and one with fricking RGB (which is going to make the unit not only cost more but increase the heat)?
This trend needs to stop, but it won’t as long as people buy such products and need to have the biggest and best, electricity usage and heat be damned. It’s the same philosophy that governs preordering games: gotta have the best RIGHT NOW. And “the best” is so often, at release, utter TRASH.
I have a very old CPU: 4690K. TDP 88W. The CPU I’ll hopefully be able to get (whenever my PC buys the farm and I build another one) is the 12400. TDP 65W. The 12400 absolutely destroys my CPU but with a lower TDP.
