I’m asking because I have never seen something like this before (don’t hate me for this)

    I meant this as a question… I’m not old enough to know you used to be able to plug your monitor in lol. Cut me some slack 😅

    It’s a very old one that has connector for power for an old monitor. Monitor gets plugged in the lower connector

    I’ve never used one of these before, but I’ve heard of them

    They are outputs for monitor power. I believe they are either always on (as just a second plug) or come on when you hit the power button on your pc.

    I hate you because you’re young. It’s a mains power pass through so back in the day you only needed one power cord to the wall for your pc and monitor.

    I had one of these back in 2000, terrible 350w psu in a Leonard nemoy Time machine.
    Tis indeed a pass through for the monitor. Saves a wall socket.

    Further to to other comments, consider this; that PSU is ancient.

    **I would not recommend trying to use it.** Most parts do have a usable lifespan after which they are prone to failure. For PC parts, this is often so long that they get replaced before they die.

    And yet, this PSU is still around and hasn’t been sent for recycling yet.

    Just a heads up. Highly likely its an older “AT” PSU. The power switch is 110 or 240v. DO NOT PLUG IN AND HANDLE THE SWITCH.

    You connect it to itself so you can do the infinite power glitch.

    Back in this power supply’s day, CRT monitors had no auto signal loss power off, so as a convenience feature, power supplies included that extra plug to allow you to plug the monitor into it, so it would turn on and off with the computer.

    Doing it that way would prevent you from leaving the monitor on by accident and wasting a bunch of power. Because there wouldn’t be a no signal notification either, it would just be a blank screen that would look the same as if it was off.

    That’s not a second input. That’s an output. You would connect your monitor into your power supply back in the day since it was just a pass through.

    In the early days of the internet you could buy a device called a ‘Groinal attachment’, this was mostly used to enhance the please of surfing the internet. In some cases and when another power connection wan unavailable these specialised psu’s could be bought so you wouldn’t have to be too far from the computer whilst the Groinal attachement was in use. I personally severely injured myself by inadvertantly pressing the Turbo button on my 486 powered computer while using the device and haven’t been the same since.
