I’ve had this build for almost 4 years now, i noticed today that my PSU caught on fire. I could smell a chemical smell and i could hear something crackling. I turned off the PSU and unplugged the PC before it died. Idk if anything else is broken. My PSU is from Fractal (660P).

Chances are not great but always worth a try with a different PSU. What exact model was it?

I was wondering how often can something like this occur, and if it was a foul design by the manufacturer, if i should just replace the PSU or get everything checked. The PSU is from Fractal and they seem pretty high quality.
psu are always the thing i spend money on, even though fractal is a good brand, you can still get bad components on anything, but if the psu is built right the rest of you pc could be unaffected. wish you luck
If its still under warranty, contact fractal, if not, buy a new one.
Edit: Still contact fractal anyway and explain what happened, they may want the psu back to investigate the failure to see if any other units out there are at risk.

Ideally you pick an A tier PSU.
The 660P has proper output monitoring, so almost certainly hasn’t damaged anything else.
This is why I bought the Msi MEG Ai1000P PCIE 5 platinum Certified
Hopefully it just fried itself and didn’t take anything else with it .
If it’s still under warranty definitely contact Fractal. They should send you a new one and reimburse any component damage.
For those wondering about warranty, the warranty lasts for about 2 years and i’ve built this PC about 4 years ago already. The rest of the components seem in solid conditions, so i’m going to replace the PSU and hope it’s all running normally again. I will contact fractal about the incident, send some pictures, i’ll comment down if they ever reply.
edit : I’ve also noticed a large amount of dust in my PSU, idk about other brands, but fractal had made a box which is quite hard to open, and so kind of impossible to dust of the inside. I usually clean my dust filters once every two weeks, but idk if the dust may have caused the incident.
fractal also wont care if its off warranty or not, and they may even pay for the shipping, you have nothing to lose by inquiring about them doing so.
so please definitely CALL them and let them know about this failure.
they WILL take it seriously.
