I’ve had a fancy leather Executive chair for years now and I cannot fathom why anyone would want to spend similar money on a “gaming” chair.

My chair looks like it belongs to a boomer who will insist that everyone come back into the office, but it can hold 400lbs, has memory foam in the cushions and is big enough that I can curl up in it with a blanket while I wait to respond. I sit in this chair for 12 hours a day and it still looks new. Still feels new.

I don’t care if it doesn’t look like Master Chief’s helmet, the chair is GOOD.

For the curious, it’s this:

It’s the same price as a Secret Labs chair.

It’s serta branded, ofc it’s going to be comfy. Just don’t buy their instore brand “executive” chairs, very cheap underneath the cushioning.

Totally agree, unless you are building a sim rig, an office chair is actually more optimal for long PC usage than a gaming chair.

    I use a haworth zody

My executive chair gave me back pain. YMMV.

If you have problems, look at ergonomic chairs.

  4. Straymussel

Be careful, it has bonded leather so may end up cracking over the years.

The thing people don’t get about chair is that they only fit a specific range of people. Ergonomic chairs are designed to be as adjustable as possible, so they are almost guaranteed to give you good seating posture.

Gaming and executive chairs are not adjustable in the same way, so if you get the wrong shape for your body you’re going to fuck up your back.

Take a road trip to your nearest big city and craigslist/marketplace a herman miller on the cheap.

  7. I use the Staples Dexley Mesh that I paid $130 for on sale. I can sit in it for easily 8-10 hours.

Best office chair I ever owned was a Serta big and tall chair. Lasted for 15 years of daily use too.

I like my relatively cheap mesh chairs, personally. Don’t have to worry about the cushions or padding blowing out.

Arm rests always die well before the rest of the chair, but those are easily replaced.

Recently got a Herman miller aeron. It’s bloody good

Ive been looking for a new chair recently, and if the description mentions gaming, I wont even look at TBH.

I once had an amazing executive chair, comfy fabric, great padding. Unfortunately had to get rid as the house we were in at the time had mutant fleas that wouldn’t die, so had to bin a ton of things.

Had a few gaming chairs since, the arm rests fail and bend, the padding is nothing more than a pancake after a month and just all round uncomfortable garbage.

If I can ever afford a new chair it will be another executive one.

“Gaming” chairs suck, those racer style bucket chairs are designed for looks, not comfort.

I got a Herman Miller Embody and Atlas Headrest earlier this year, best chair I’ve ever owned.

I’d like to just remind everyone that this often means that the site is doing so much data harvesting on the site visitors that it would be illegal to do it to EU citizens.

  15. I said this in another thread but after breaking a flimsy gaming chair I just bought this bariatric office chair for very overweight people. Super padded and comfy, roomy and extremely sturdy. It reclines too, which is always nice.

The leather executive chair I have is 13 years old, still VERY comfy and I’m not planning on replacing it any time soon, certainly not for a fugly gaming chair.

  17. And that chair is literally 3x the price of a nice “gaming” chair I bought.

Been preaching this for years. Needed a new chair 5 years ago. Was told all the gamer brands that where must buys. Sat in a friends pricey secret labs chair, and hated it. Went into office Depot grabbed a workpro 9000 for around 450 and couldn’t t be happier. Biggest problem I have with it is how often I fall sleep in it.

I’m on year 13 with a leather-covered Steelcase Leap in my gaming station, and it sits and performs as if brand new. I’m 6′ and 200 lb (and I’ve lost 90 lbs since I first sat my big ass in the chair) and the cushion still provides comfort, there is no “sink” to the chair lift, and all surfaces and levers, etc., are in tact and holding up great.

Worth every penny of the cost.

Ergo chair > *. I’ve had a Herman Miller for 13 or 14 years, still going strong and still keeping me sitting right. Also have a refurb Leap V1 in the basement workspace. I won’t buy anything else for a desk chair, the benefits of good ergonomic design and the adjustability are too great.

Shitty office chairs are better than gaming chairs.

The only problem I ever have sitting in my chair is my tailbone starts to hurt after an hour or two of playing games. Wish I could find a chair that could prevent that. I’ve put thick pillows under my butt and it still starts to hurt so I don’t think it’s a cushioning issue. And I never have this problem playing games on my Switch in my recliner, so I don’t think I have a medical issue with my tailbone.

I got a Steelcase Gesture (https://store.steelcase.com/gesture-with-headrest) almost 4 years ago. The headrest was always a bit wobbly back-and-forth and I recently sent an email to their customer service about it with a video, thinking they would send me some kind of replacement part. They sent me a whole new chair at no cost.

  24. DeanDeau

Stable chairs (no wheel, no rocking, at least 4 legs, heavy) are the most superior gaming chair.

  25. DanTheMan827

Gaming chairs are to a proper chair as gaming headphones are to proper headphones.

They can be good, but you’re paying for the looks more than function.

  26. Lacerationz

Y’all need a Herman Miller Aereon. That’s it. Never gonna need another chair in your life, never gonna have back pain. Order some rollerblade wheels for it off Amazon and you’re set
