How long did it cook for? Did you have to lose a processor before you figured it out, or just had high temps that seemed inexcusable?

And don’t worry, we’ve all gotten near 100% done just to realize we effed something up and had to tear it all down again lol. Mine was I completed a build and realized the same brand board, same style, but was my old board, was the one I installed. That was a harsh moment.

My friend burnt out his i9 12th gen doing this

Tried to contact coolermaster for them to pay for it as the film had no visible markers and could of easily been missed

His response was essentially ‘lol no’

It didn’t spread well anyway. Glad you caught it.

I just did this not long ago. Maybe been re/building PCs for a decade. I knew it happened because when I was cleaning up I realized I couldn’t find the sticker. Oddly enough I did not notice any issues while using the PC which lead me to believe it was fine and I probably threw away the sticker with something else.

I needed to move an m.2 drive which required the removal of the cooler (ITX things) and I knew it was gonna be there. It was like that for about 3 weeks.

I honestly don’t think this is a major goof up. I mean, it’s not blatantly obvious there’d be plastic film there. With experience, you’d learn to check. It’s a habit of mine to inspect and study everything I get, but I don’t think anyone’s stupid for not doing the same.

Anyone smug or proud to never have blundered like this is merely oblivious to their inevitable demise. Your day approaches, it get’s them all in the end.

Whenever this happens, I always wonder why the manufacturer of whatever cooler uses a small piece of transparent plastic to cover / protect the thermal paste….

Cheapest thing possible to use I guess.

Noob. That’s nothing. Once i screwed a mother board and forgot to put the case standoffs . I kid you not. Mb/ram/cpu all gone to hardware heaven.
