Pondsmith and Williams are friends, and Williams helped playtest the original ruleset. Clearly, Sandevistan is an intentional corruption of Santistevan. I first read this fantastic cyberpunk founding novel 11 years ago, and while re-reading it (via Audible) I heard “Santistevan” and my ears perked right up.

IIRC the original TTRPG had a Hardwired sourcebook as well.

Wow, nice find! I wondered about that myself since I mistakenly remembered it just being called speedware. I went back through my old CP2020 books and found it directly referenced as the Sandy. I keep meaning to check out Hard Wired. The writing in the snippet you shared looks pretty good!
