4 sticks of trash tier G.Skill (32GB combined) for about 120€
Advertised to run at 4000 MHz, but I “only” managed to apply 3800.
Technically still not stable according to memtest, but has yet to crash for the first time (been running like this for a year at this point)

Are the ones above 48 greyed out because it knows you’re poor? 🙂

I don’t think these are apples to apples comparison. How much bandwidth does this Mac has and these cheap sticks have?
PS: I’m not saying it is worth the money.

A $400 upcharge for an extra 18GB of RAM is RIDICULOUS we seriously need to boycott apple until they slash their GOUGING prices to reasonable prices. We keep enabling these toxic practices by buying these already ridiculous priced electronics that become obsolete within the next quarter and we just keep letting companies keep raising prices for so little in return and we FALL FOR IT AND BUY IT without thought or hesitation!
rmpumper
Apple can do this shit because they solder the RAM, making an upgrade impossible, so the idiots are forced to pay whatever the fuck Apple is charging.

What pisses me off is that it’ll still be a good deal. Try to find another laptop that has comparable performance (in applications you usually buy an apple computer for), almost perfect screen, great speakers, great headphone output, good design, good keyboard, good trackpad, battery life, silent cooling and an actually usable webcam. Either impossible or equally expensive. Most manufacturers skimp on one or multiple of these things, but still take a lot of money from you, so you might as well shove it into Apple’s ass and get a perfect product. I’ve always been and still am a PC guy. But when it comes to laptops, I don’t see much competition for Apple currently. The other manufacturers have to step up their game, especially Microsoft whose products are underspec’d rip-offs.

Not $400 thats for goddamn sure lmao

I’m not a Apple fanboy or even a user but this comparaison is pointless.
Apple Silicon “RAM” is directly fusioned in the chip and it’s way faster than top DDR5. Also it’s not just the RAM but also the GPU VRAM this is why they are calling it Unified Memory.

DisgustinglyAwsome
Have you seen the 8TB SSD price? Anything above 2TB gets exponentially more expensive per byte, so a single 8TB SSD is still a weird decision. Apple never heard of RAID.
Soace_Space_Station
128 ram for 1600 dollars? That’s like going to be more than my entire setup
El_Grande_XL
Wtf you doing to do with 36 gb RAM?
That’s some enterprise shit for a server that runs an application for around 30-50 users.
