Actually it can. Firstly it’s about nostalgia! It’s very powerful emotion you can feel while playing. Secondly it’s a fresh view on the game. You know, when you was a child you couldn’t see things that you can see as an adult. And the last one. I know a couple of people who was disappointed by modern game industry and they decided to return to the retro gaming and as I can see they are doing well. They buy retro handhelds consoles and play like in the good old times…

Depends on the game, some age more gracefully than others. I had recently replayed Final Fantasy Tactics and loved it because the style of the game is pretty much ageless. Then I got cocky and thought since FFT was such a good revisit, I’d also revisit 007 Goldeneye, that was a mistake 😬

I am having a blast replaying Skies of Arcadia Legends via RetroArch and it feels just as good as when I played it many years ago. Also helps to have a good CRT shader so old games are displayed like they should be when they were made with CRTs in mind.
You can lose a lot of magic when replaying a game and seeing the art in raw pixels.
I definitely feel less when captivated playing Sonic today than I did when it was new, but some games really can hold up well and make you feel a lot like you did back in the day.

I just played NFS most wanted 2005 through my Embedded systems lectures. It was as fun as I remembered it to be. Even got two classmates to join in and play it turn by turn.

I still enjoy Prince of Persia Warrior Within like it’s the first time I’ve played it.
But it needs at least a few years in between every replay.
I wish the whole trilogy gets a faithful remake, like the RE games have gotten with Capcom. Even the Dead Space Remake was pretty amazing.

I’ve been replaying the old Need for Speed Underground and Underground 2, and I can say I genuinely enjoy them just as much!
I will admit, it’s not in the same way, I use to love just modifying a car and jumping it around, now I prefer to make it look sleek and actually tune it to race better. But I do love it just as much!

I did watch a Wonder Boy in Monster World playthrough though and was happier for it. I always struggled with that game.

After I hit 60, PC game assistant hold much interest for me anymore. At 64, I’ll still do some sims once in a while or even some Portal 2 but I’d rather read a decent book nowadays. I’ll never forget installing and playing Unreal or Warcraft: Orcs & Humans for the first time, though.

It depends If the game has a story, then you might get a new appreciation…or more entertainment depending on how bad the story actually is. I just recently played AvP2 and the dialogue is just laughable at times.
