It’s an IDE port. Mobo doesn’t support it without something like an IDE to SATA adapter.
_vogonpoetry_
IDE ports havent been on motherboards in a very long time.
You’d need an IDE to USB adapter or IDE to PCI or PCIe expansion card to use this drive.
UB_Samurott
You’re gonna need an adapter since it seems like your MOBO doesn’t support it, it’s an IDE port iirc

Wow. That’s old. It’s old ATA, before serial ATA. It was usually (and technically misnamed) called IDE.
You can get USB adapters for them, but powering it becomes your own problem.

I absolutely hate that there are now people walking about who have no idea what a PATA interface is.

It’s a PATA hard drive also known as IDE.
These were unique because you’d use a cable with three ends. This way you could connect two devices with one cable traditionally.
These have a jumper on them, which can be used to set them in modes which now have politicially incorrect names. The “Master” drive is the main drive, as you’ll be only using one drive, it should have a diagram on it on where to place this jumper for Master mode.
Many people are recommending USB adapters, but I don’t. The problems with these are they are costly because conventional USB cannot provide enough power for the drive. The adapters need a power supply as well which adds to the cost.
However they have adapters to convert these to SATA which you can then use to install this in your computer: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RBKTQBG

Unless you really need data off of that drive, I’d strongly suggest just buying a newer one if you can afford it. I get the feeling even if you get it powered up, its days are about as numbered as the number of gigs that drive can hold.
URA_CJ
That’s what older people call IDE and the younger call PATA, your motherboard only supports SATA, its funny that your motherboard supports LPT for 90’s hardware but no interface for older HDD/ODD’s.
You can use a SATA to IDE bridge adapter if you want to use it.
Baldr_Torn
To make it work, you would have to buy an adapter.
Better plan : Spend the money on a brand new SSD with more storage and enjoy the much faster speed.
You can get a 250gb SSD for $30 or less.
garrick777
It is correct to say PATA interface. IDE is the first version of Western Digital dives that actually used PATA. You cannot connect it directly but through a SATA-PATA adapter which I do not recommend. Get a USB to PATA adapter (with aux molex for power supply) which is better.

It’s just like the VGA post from a while back, we all knew it was coming. Just like the VGA one, this one also hit like a truck. (OP, it’s PATA by the way).

Bro that might have some badass games or some other data on it.
I’d get an adapter just to see.
Also this post made me feel old 😂

Surely people know what IDE is, this is a put-on, right?
Right?
…
*Furious Googling…*
* IDE came out in 1986 (37 Years Ago)
* SATA came out in 2003 (20 Years Ago)
Figure it takes about 10 years for widespread adoption of a technology that usurps a previous one…
FUCK. I’m old 🙁

Probably older than 15 years. So thanks for reminding me how I squandered my youth.
