Got a 750w thermaltake tough power a3 with a couple of hidden connectors. Why???

  1. Oh, that is interesting… the cheapest way of PSU variant configuration by sticker – unbelievable…

    Is the hidden socket active? Can you check by multimeter or load?

    BTW, you can search for similar models, what is in the series (higher power models)

    They could be covered because they aren’t reliable, so they covered them to sell it as a lower model. May work perfectly, but I’m not sure I’d be willing to risk my build or stability on it.

    Just my 2 cents.

    The manufacturer most likely cuts costs by not purchasing a connection interface board for each model of their PSU line. Reuse the same connection interface board, but cover the ports that are not active.

    For example, the 1500W and the 500W models reuse the same connection interface board, but only 1/3 of the ports can be used, and therefore, they put a sticker over the “dead weight” ones.

    You could try to plug into these, but I would highly advise against it.

    Thermaltake wonders.. I hope that’s not a tough power, those are basically the only decent ones in their PSU line up.

    Likely cause it’s cheaper to build them all the same and cover up the non used/non wired ones.

    It’s most likely that they use the same board for every model, and they simply do not connect lower wattage psu connectors so they hide it behind a sticker. Most likely that connector is not plugged into the psu’s board.

  9. You won’t use them anyway. Probably Thermaltake decided not change old PSU configurations for SLI in the past and continue this manufacturing which makes no sense

    Why? So they don’t have to pay to tool another housing with one less connector and they don’t have to make an extra PCB with one less connector.

    Could also be that the PSU is actually an 850W and they needed 750W inventory so they reworked the units. In most cases, the only difference between a decent quality 750W and 850W is the bridge rectification being able to handle more current.

    Pssst, thats VVVHPWR (veryveryveryHighPower) for the upcoming grtx 5090 (they are introducing gaming rtx, with 1 million cuda cores). The leaks say its gonna have ~2000w power draw, still not enough to run minecraft rtx in 16k tho.

    Also you gotta check out the power label, there is an additional 0 hidden once unlocked you gonna have a 7500w psu.

    Thus reminds me of the old amd processors. They would sell you a guaranteed 3 core processor but sometimes you could go into the bios and unlock a 4th working core, then suddenly your motherboard recognized the processor as a phenom.

    On a serious note, yeah, probably this is a good way to save money, wouldn’t be too surprised to see this on other cheap PSUs, but it’s not suprising at all seeing it on a Thermaltake PSU
