I just noticed this for the first time after 3 years and my 9th run through the game. The whole walk down to the crypt has tons of graffiti around, almost all of which has a ‘VB’ incorporated into it or nearby. If they don’t call themselves the Voodoo Boys, what else could VB mean?
I would say the graffiti is the work of Voodoo Boy’s posers.
They might not call themselves that amongst each other but if that’s what people know them as they might still use it. But it could also just be anyone who wrote it.
Maybe he’s like an old school, primordial members of the gang who actually built their reputation, from before they were known as Voodoo Boys. Later, people started calling them that and newer members adopted it while the older gang didn’t feel like it.

considering Placide couldn’t even tell we had the magical mcguffin thing that *their entire gang was focused on getting* and he didn’t notice… imma go ahead and assume Placide doesn’t know much about the Voodoo Boys in general.
They can call themselves anything they want. They’re always slaughtered in everyone of my saves so doesn’t matter much to me.
I assume the core netrunner crew doesn’t use that name. It’s the lower goons doing graffiti and shit.
Placide is a fucking moron, the game and especially Phantom Liberty make that pretty clear.
A few possibilities:
1. He’s lying. Again. Just like he lies about everything else. In lore, the Haitians killed the entire “Voodoo Boys” gang when they emigrated and effectively took over the clan, so they are in fact the Voodoo Boys and this is just a bald-faced lie.
2. He accepts that outsiders are referring to them when they mention the Voodoo Boys, but asserts that his group, internally, do not refer to themselves as such. Idk, maybe they call themselves the “Last Children of Hatia” or smth. On a side note, DC does not call the DCEU the DCEU internally.

If were taking Placide seriously, I think he’s talking about the fact the Voodoo Boys was originally a different gang using Voodoo aesthetics before the Haitis and other Caribbeans came, massacred them and took over.
So yeah they wave the flag, but there’s no deeper connection to the name than that.

The actual name of that gang might also abbreviate to VB, and considering their whole style people might have jumped to the conclusion that “VB” stands for “Voodoo Boys”, and they just ran with it since they don’t want to make the actual name public.

lore wise The VBs in 2077 were another gang that took over the original VBs once actual Hatians arrived in Night City and fought against the original VBs. It would make sense that due to their nature of secrecy that the older members kept that name to themselves. Meanwhile the ones on the lower totem pole just embrace the Voodoo Boys name while being kept in the dark of other things. You can even see that in the game how Placide knew very little about the Relic even though hes a high ranking member.
God i hate the voodoo boys and that whole storyline 🤮
