die? did V really kill him permanently?

I’ve seen people say he has several other backup bodies he can transfer his consciousness to. or maybe Arasaka just made him into an engram somehow?

I was suspicious when he was easy to beat at the end of the game.. maybe he really isn’t dead and he’ll return in the next game in another body?

what are your thoughts?

I saw posts before saying the Only reason he was weak because we needed to beat him but idk

  2. They would be stupid to not have copies of him.

  3. Gambit275

even if there were copies they just end up beyond the blackwall

  4. cheguevara_malcolmx

Im hoping Alt Cunningham wiped that shit when she fucked arasaka and mikoshi

    2077 isn’t cannon, it’s based on cannon

  6. Disposable_Minion47

You know Arasaka made an Engram of him, they’d be crazy not to. (But the real question was it absorbed by Alt when MIKOSHI went down)And Soulkiller can edit and modify Engram personalities at will. His skillset without the psychopathy?! There’s probably a platoon of Adam 2.0s ready and geared to go.

I hope Smasher survives somehow. Sometimes a straight up asshole without greater motivations or ambitions is just the villain we need.

I also hope that they make the Saburo ending canon. He’s a great villain as well 😀

werent they talking about the succesfull engram they made from smasher for the “final” build in the anime?

  9. sanY_the_Fox

He has other bodies yes BUT they have to transfer his head and some of his organs, so once you shot him in the brain it is lights out, remember he is mostly cyborg but there is still 4% left of what makes him a human.
Maybe Arasaka has a backup of his soul, the question is if Smasher was willing to give them one or not, i could see him denying that offer.

As far as we know, yes he really is dead. However, many fans (myself included) find it very hard to believe a man that has multiple bodies for himself doesn’t have some kind of way to cheat death when one of his bodies is destroyed in combat.

I actaully hope we see him in the sequel and maybe he can finally live up to the hype

  12. CHEEZE_BAGS

He is pretty much a brain and part of a spine so unless you destroy that, I think he would survive. Not like you stick around after to see if an Arasaka recovery team appears. It could go either way.

  13. Lysergian157

Doesn’t matter how many bodies you have if your brain is in a biopod which gets obliterated, you’re not surviving that.

It was going to happen eventually. Honestly, I think he’s a big enough threat that his presence shaped politics in Night City and I wouldn’t be shocked if a small corpo war broke out as a consequence of among other things about the end of the game.

  15. GhostOfSinjar

I wouldn’t even be mad if he did. Let me kill him again. Hopefully at least the boss fight will be substantial this time.

  16. I’m holding out hope he comes back in his Elvis body. Would be fucking hilarious to see Elvis the Pelvis acting like a psychotic lunatic.

  17. EvilGodShura

He’s gone. People just wanna make any excuse to not accept that V is just that powerful.

  18. JimmyCrabYT

me getting my ass handed to me on a silver platter in 2.0 hard mode by smasher because of my deadeye build

  19. 33Sharpies

Adam Smasher has a bad habit of coming back from the dead

  20. I got kind of a feeling this might be how they soft reboot Cyberpunk franchise. Wipe away the old legends for new stories.

  21. TzarRazim

If Saburo is back, he’s gonna dip homeboy into the deep frier. He doesn’t take betrayal well…

Otherwise, well shoot him a bunch and maybe he’s dead for good unless he’s got a backup

  22. PM_PICS_OF_UR_PUPPER

Everyone’s talking about cloning Smasher but Takemura was the emperor’s body guard and I doubt he’d let his shithead son have a stronger guard. I’d hope Arasaka had some takemura clones.

  23. AdamM093

I would like to see in the next game that maybe V has become legend and no one is really sure what happened.

Maybe people think V beat smasher atop arasaka tower but in truth smasher never met v and the whole fight was a distraction from within arasaka.

Maybe some people believe V did a space hiest at the crystal palace! But some claim they saw v being a fixer in haywood after they got separated from Johnny and the relic.

Or maybe we just needed a big bad and we’ll play as V again, get to level 100 and zero Morgan black hand and ride off with the techno mancer nomad clan. You never know.

With an engram, it’s entirely possible they have Smasher saved on a backup server and can reload him. It reminds me a bit of Altered Carbon. I can imagine Arasaka could have sold personality backup services to the 1% and raked in even more money and power.

That said, is that engram still the same smasher that killed Johnny? And does it matter? I guess we can get into the idea of souls, and whether loading a backup that has the same memories as the original is still the same person or not. From an outside perspective, he would seem like the same person. But Johnny said the worst part about being an engram is that they can edit you, or your memories, and you would never even know.

ETA: If you love CP77 and have never seen the first season of Altered Carbon, for the love of all that is holy go close Reddit and go watch it right now.

Oh god please not. I dont want another somehow emperor lives moment. Every entertainment universe brings back famous characters for nostalgia points. Like many other characters, smashers story is complete. He isnt needed in the future. Please let the cut of meat rest.

  26. In Edgerunners he tells David he might make an interesting construct. I took that to mean he’s got construct back ups out there somehow

  27. Excellent_Way5082

Smasher being an engram is the perfect mirror for Johnny tbh

  28. Ok-Dare-9460

Definitely. It’s standard protocol to backup your data. Something everyone learned from ransomware, don’t just backup the data, keep copies on different networks.
Even if alt deleted mikoshi, I doubt she deleted anything permanently. Engrams are data. As long as you keep backup copies and follow standard procedures, your only headache is data corruption.

We just cosplayed as Johnny and deleted one active copy of smasher.
We have no idea if that’s the only live copy running around. There could be another live copy of smasher somewhere who’s gonna get revenge when he hears about it.

  29. Demonidze

pretty sure they had a “backup” copy of him in Mikoshi, but then Alt happened… so I guess RIP Smasher.

  30. Electrocat71

I have always wondered if Johnny felt like a complete wanker every time I beat smashers bitch ass.

  31. SovietPaperPlates

first male V I’ve seen that actually looks cool

  32. Initial-Camel-8440

He is dead dead. Unless God himself chimes in and says otherwise, but he did explain that Smasher is basically a small biobag which gets transferred from one body to another. There is no engram of him.

This can obviously be changed later, so we *could* see another Smasher in a future game or whatever, but as it stands right now, he’s gone.

    Justice for Rebecca.

  33. biguyhiguy

I think Arasaka definitely engramed him, that’s why he’s not all cyberpsycho. My headcanon is that in Don’t Fear the Reaper, when alt wipes mikoshi, he’s dead dead. Or at least only a part of her now.
