Dude, my laptop is Tiger lake(11 the gen i5), I always wonder when should I get a new laptop… The last one was 7th gen i5

Are people shocked that there are similarities between intel chips literally running on the same socket? It’s not that uncommon. Similar to say the i5 3570k to i5 4570k to i5 4690k. Same socket, 3 releases, a tik-tok-refresh. This was never going to be some huge renovation or redesign like an entirely new series on a new socket.

Also might shock people to learn they don’t have to upgrade every single release. Just as the 4690k wasn’t really for the 4570k owners, more for people coming from 2500k’s maybe or other older cpus.

The next change is coming with the rename scheme and it’ll be 15th gen arrowlake. Meteorlake is a mobile platform for laptops. 14th gen is raptor lake refresh, just like devil’s canyon was a refresh. Arrowlake is when we’re supposed to see foveros (3d cache) on intel.

After that the next big potential I think may be whatever follows arrow/lunar lake. Panther lake possibly? (Not sure if that will be desktop or mobile). With the transition to ‘rentable units’ and moving away from traditional hyperthreading. Instead of running a single processing core and virtual core (that has to be processed on the physical core) with ht, it alters that by leveraging the hybrid p/e cores and sending some parts to the p-core and others to the e-core as needed for 2 physical processing cores in tandem. Whether it’s a huge boost or a huge bust like the old pentium 3’s that suffered due to prediction and pipelines that were way too deep remains to be seen.

Sounds more like people expecting more because they weren’t paying attention, just saw new numbers on a new product and automatically assumed ‘ope, yea 20% more peformance, cause product numbers’. If they had been paying attention they would’ve known this was a refresh, what a refresh is (and what it’s not) and the results would’ve been expected to be what they are.

If long time reviewers who spend time delving into these things (say hardware unboxed, gamers nexus, linus etc) are acting all aghast and shocked and disappointed, they’re either lazy or disingenuous. They’ve been around the block enough to have a better idea of what was coming and instead act perplexed because their profits come from clicks. Clickbait is strong.

That’s probably why Intel didn’t do any marketing, it’s just a refresh to wait for arrow lake.

  4. If we follow historical logic, Intel must be resting on its laurels this generation.

    OP doesn’t understand intel’s tick-tock cycle…

    update – refresh – update – refresh – tick – tock

  6. Don’t they do this like basically every generation? A small refresh that’s the same but with a new name. It’s hard to be like GOTCHA! when it’s expected.
