Moved out from the Bay Area, where AT&T Fiber 5 Gig was available, to a new place more inland where the only 2 options are DSL and Starlink.
Checked around and the only carrier that offers hotspot internet is AT&T, but even after trying that the ping was ridiculously high, while also averaging ~10-30 down.
Might end up selling off my 4090 rig at this rate.. unless anyone has any suggestions

Still better than my speeds. I am assuming you didn’t move to another city, if so, what did you expect?
What are the advertised DSL speeds there? Seems like it would be better to me…
Your 4090 rig still games at good fps, internet speed won’t change that. Though it will take forever to download. I remember dial up bro. Just start downloads at night.
I had Starlink and it sucked more the Elons decision making skills so I dropped it and I just so happened to be shopping for new phone service at T-mobile and was told they offered the Home Internet in my area with a 5G UC Tower nearby. $30 a month addon.

What’s the 4090 rig look like?
I mean, download speeds aren’t impossible to deal with game wise. You still have top end hardware

I will never move anywhere without checking internet providers first for this exact reason
Australian internet is a tiny bit faster down here at 25 mbps for most people. It won’t mess with your ping unless you’re real far from the game server. Just download overnight and use the command prompt to schedule a shutdown like half an hour after it’s estimated to finish
Maybe I’m just a spoiled city guy, but the last time I had sub 20mbit speeds was 2004. That’s rough.
Man, for me at least. Starlink was such a game changer and it allowed me and my family to upgrade everything in our lives. From dropping direcTV in favor of streaming, to getting rid of our land line, and using WiFi direct calls, to FINALLY being able to download and play AAA games the same day they get released I am forever happy and grateful when I was finally able to get starlink in my area.
Time to suck it up OP and use your hotspot
Meanwhile, me with DSL:
(its 80$ a month)

Had to re-post as my amazon link was an affiliate link- Just look up weboost home.
The only reason I know theses things is I have 1.5mbps DSL as my only Internet option. Took me months and months to figure all this out .Anyways here is what you need to have decent Internet.
First find out who has the best coverage at your house if you have friends with different carriers get them to come over and run speed tests see what you get.
You don’t need a hotspot plan.
You need a newer 5g Samsung phone(I use my old note20 5g ultra) and a program called PDAnet on android. You can tether to your computer via USB and then out of your desktop via Ethernet into the Internet port of your wifi router and it will share the Internet with all devices. (You have to go to control panel-network then right click and share with others)
Also depends on your signal you will need a weboost signal booster, this is the newer model I have gen 1 but without it I get maybe 10mbps (1-2 bars)with the signal booster aimed towards my nearest tower I get 120-170mbps(5bars).

Using this method I’ve used 1.8tb of data in a month on a single line before with zero slow downs. It also give 5 bars to all my phones in my entire house. And my T-Mobile box doesn’t even get signal without the signal booster. Best $400 I’ve ever spent!
Another option as mentioned here is to get a T-Mobile 5g home Internet box. I had to use my grandmother’s address to get mine but I’ve been using it for a good 6-8months now and get 25-35mbps. I use this for my wife and kids to stream TV and tablets with.
Because it’s simple, if my computer restarts due to and update with the other method mentioned above my wife can be bothered to right click an icon and click connect.
P.s. Samsung use to allow you to enter a secret band selection menu and you could lock your phone to the priority bands but the carriers were dickheads and blocked that…. anyway supposedly spectrum is supposed to run new lines out my way after winning the government rural Internet contract but they have until 2028-2030……..you can check you address and see if your address is one that is being expanded to also.
Bro I only have 30 mbps download and yeah it sucks for downloading new games and updates actually playing is completely fine
I wouldn’t consider selling the nice hardware you’ve got even if you can’t improve your internet. I know online and competitive games are incredibly popular, but give singleplayer games and RPGs a go, you’ll be able to run them beautifully and it’s a good time even solo.
What is it even like having 5 gig? That speed seems insane. I get around 400mbps download speed and it feels really fast to me.
Most online games are comfortably playable at 0,5-1Mbps. That’s speed at which sites are loading for ages and you can forget about watching youtube etc. Yet if it is only stable you can play online games with no issues. Obviously only if you already downloaded all the patches for it.
Still better than Canada lol. Why worry about it? Unless you only play multiplayer. It’s a good time for that single player backlog!
another company recently bought out our old provider and i don’t actually have any idea if it’s really because of that but the new internet is so damn slow
You have more than twice my speed and I still play whatever I want. But it must feel horrible after having experienced the luxury before.
5g for home use is comedic
Use dsl instead, way better latency (normally)
starlink was a life saver for us, we moved to a place with effectively no internet coverage and no Fibre
ay caramba that is 20x better than me, and i am living in this absolute-disgust-and-disrespect-to-the-humanity land since 2021 Fall, fucking kill me

Ask them to install fiber
