8/10, the map’s honestly really fun and I think garners way too much hate simply because it’s the finale map for Aether and didn’t live up to the insane expectations people had for that. But discarding all complaints related to false expectations the map is still flawed. There are definitely some questionable design choices with this map like the hermit at the top of the light tower taking an hour and a half to get anything you give him and bring down your reward and honestly the Victis crew is just a weird choice for the map. But the aesthetic of the map, this weird mixing of familiar and new, and the actual layout of most of the map is really nice and gives you a lot to work with. I just think that for the final map in an over 10 year old story with such massive hits like we saw in BO3 the map feels really underwhelming to a lot of people, kind of like how people feel about Revelations in BO3. On its own though the map’s pretty solid, not the best in the series, hell it isn’t even the best in the game, but it’s still good.

Overall: 8,5/10 like any other map ive ever seen rated on this kind of test (well no I agree sometimes its 9.5)

From all the leaks of what we were supposed to get, I feel bad for treyarch cause they did the best they could with the resources they were given. I do like the map and give it an 8/10, but man we should’ve ended on a banger. Oh well it’s still better than anything CW put out (except Mauer is tied w it imo)

Tag is very enjoyable to play, a solid end to a more then solid game. Though at launch, a lot of people thought it was an anti-climactic end, which, yeah, I can see that, compared to Moon, Origins, and Revelations. But still, there’s a lot to love about it! But lets go through the cons first, because hey, why not?
Story is really tough to gauge on this map. I don’t think it’s bad, I actually really enjoy the ending, and the lore the map has to offer overall. But we can all tell that this isn’t how things were supposed to play out. With Monty’s VA not coming back for BO4, to the generally poor reception BO4 had as it was releasing, the devs had to jump ship and move away from the Great War map they were absolutely planning on. What we have is still good, but we’re cursed with knowing that “yeah, this isn’t the ending we were supposed to get”. Victis being the final crew we play as in the Aether storyline is also *really* weird. But in a fun way, I can’t even say that it’s a bad thing. Yeah, I wish you only had to build the dynamite once, and then you have an infinite supply of it. As is, it’s pretty much just busywork, putting out the fire Zombies, and assembling the dynamite over and over again. Not all that fun. And the last complaint, no return of the Scavenger or VR-11. Scavenger’s here in spirit with the new Wunderwaffe, but still, I would’ve really liked these two to get a second chance, make them actually viable.
As for pros, we got a ton! Tag addresses what was easily the biggest problem with Call of the Dead, the Wonder Weapons (as cool as they were) kinda sucked, and there were no traps. Combining that with the Zombies not having a health cap, and you have the one map in the entire Treyarch series (besides the survival maps, even then it might be achievable) where it is legitimately impossible to get round 100 on it solo. Tag has BO4’s health cap helping it out, in addition to traps, and a ton of wonder weapons and equipment to work with. People like to shit on the Tundra Gun and the Wunderwaffe Sniper, and yeah, they ain’t the best wonder weapons out there, but they’re fun to use and get the job done easily if you actually know what you’re doing with them. Combine those with the Ray Gun’s and the return of the OG Thundergun, and this map is absolutely stacked with Wonder Weapons. The Matryoshka Dolls also return, and are even more fun to use then in BO1, imo. and the Samantha Box speaks for itself, one of my favorite pieces of equipment in the series, really enjoy it. The map looks gorgeous, the fog of CotD gone, and the icy landscape melting, with a beautiful sunset in the distance. The new areas add to the environment greatly, as well. Two way ziplines! It’s just fun, not much else to say. Makes traversing around the map **so** much smoother, and quick. I enjoy the lack of enemy types, actually. Compared to everything else in BO4, this map just has standard zombies, fire zombies (which you can get rid of if you keep dynamite), electric zombies (not *too* much of a game changer), and hellhounds. It’s a very solid map for newer players, actually, I enjoy it. Like most good maps, you can get the necessities (power and PaP) very easily. But, if you want to work for the extra goodies (such as golden PaP), you’re more then inclined to do so. And the last pros I’ll mention, the George Romero tribute, and the Shang on Mars EE. One’s just really sweet, and considering George passed on by this point, was probably the best way to feature him in the map. And the other is just a giant meme only existing to fuel the “Shang is on Mars” fire. I like when the devs have fun.
Did it live up to the hype? No. Is it a bad map? *God* no. I really like Tag, personally I think it improves on CotD’s foundation in most ways, and is really enjoyable to play even without considering it’s status as a reimagining. 9/10

I’d rank it 9 to be honest. I really love this map I think a lot of the black ops 4-isms work on the map (whatever that means lmao) it’s also a stunning looking map

I uninstalled BO4 for my own sanity before it came out (I had no impulse control and would routinely put like $200 into a season), so the one time I tried to play this map, I only had two others join, and one was AFK. I was alone by round 5, so I quit and never touched it again.

Ill give it an 8 for a couple of different reasons.
First off, I dont like the spawn location. It feels like the reimagining was made with the idea that you would still spawn in the original location and then move out into the later area. Having a power switch in the spawn that doesnt actually turn anything in the spawn ON is still a jarring design choice that I dont really like.
I like Victis, and while they started out a little annoying they really grew on me in Black Ops 2. However, it does strike me as a bit strange that Nikolai talked about winning the Great War after Nuketown and then just… doesnt do anything? He doesnt really provide any direction or even tell us what to do, he just says Pablo will help you and tells you not to die. Even Richtofen was more helpful in Der Eisendrache, and his instructions didnt tell you how to do things, just what you needed to achieve.
And, my biggest gripe about this map is the Wonder Weapons like… you couldnt put a PaP camo on a single wonder weapon? Not even the Ray Gun? I could at least forgive the Wonderwaffe, even the WaW and Black Ops 1 versions had flat textures as opposed to actual PaP camos but like. The Raygun? The Mark II in any map? The Thundergun? Those have all had camos before! In two seperate games! The Tundragun even shares a model, thats no excuse! The PaP camo may have been mid but its better than not having one at all. Not to mention the fact that trying to hold more than one forces you to trade the other, really wasnt a fan of that one.
Now for what I did like, I liked the map without fog. Beautiful scenery, loved the way it all looked, even when it was drenched in lava. Main quest was fine, if a little time consuming, and it was fun figuring out how to use other side easter eggs to optomize the process.
Wonder Weapons are strong, and each one besides the Ray Guns gives you an option to recieve it for free provided you do the right steps. Golden Pack a Punch is fun, really gives me Moon vibes when doing it, and the relentless carnage during the whole process is great. I just wish it both lasted a little longer and you didnt need every player in the map on the flinger to get to it.
Electric Zombies are an interesting gimmick, especially with the stun in the water. I find it really cool that the game gives you so many tools to let you utilize the water areas of the map more, since they were more of a hinderance in Call of the Dead. The Ice Pick and the Heat Pack stacked with the fast breakout with Bowie Knife makes water training much more viable with much less effort and punishment.
The facility is neat, although after youve grabbed the Samantha box and cleared the path theres not much more reason to be over there if you arent doing challenges and quest steps. The lore points of it are nice, and so is the placement of a fairly good training spot and disposable workbench for the Heat Pack, but its more of a write off than anything and theres better places to be in Solo and Coop.
Perk Machine locations are all in good spots that take some effort to reach but arent obnoxious. Ziplines are well placed, though likely wont be utilized everywhere in the majority of games. Of the two functional flingers, i still dont care much for the one on the ship. Its a decent escape route I suppose but the wind up is just so slow still that id rather run to the top of the ship for the zipline if the boats getting too crowded.
Weapon locations tend to match up with the old Call of the Dead placements, and newer ones dont seem awkwardly placed making grabbing and going more than viable. I am somewhat sad that the Sickle did not return but oh well. Maybe one day.
All in all, the map is good in a survival sense, and good in a quest sense. Theres plenty of reason to scout around and open stuff up to prep for a regular survival game, and the tools present in Tag Der Toten are very survival friendly. Traps and the ability to lower trap price. An engaging minigame for a cheaper pack a punch. Viable water training, multiple infinite damage wonder weapons, and exploitable enemy interactions. Its a FUN map. Theres nothing that feels inherently jank or annoying to deal with like the
Crawlers and Vents in AO or the Water elementals in the Chaos Maps (RIP Chaos, gone too soon.)
8/10 experience, wish I could find people on PC who still played the damn game without sitting in a glitch spot for 4 hours.

don’t like tag at all, 4/10
i hate the lazy and not fun wonder weapons, victus crew, and boring ee. the ending was somehow even worse than revelations
I’ll give credit where its due, golden pap is amazing and the sunset view is beautiful. other than that, I never touch tag
Dinglemerk
Honestly the orb steps aren’t that bad, they always spawn near the og cotd spawn, the new spawn and the facility.
ScheidNation21
It’s a little too simple for my liking but I don’t think that makes it bad. My main gripe is just how little enemy variety there is. I like maps like gorod that have a bunch of different enemy types I need to account for and actively think about to avoid.
Personal bias I’d give it a 6/10, objectively speaking I think it’s probably an 8. Simple ≠ bad

2/10 and I honestly don’t know why. I just feel miserable everytime I play the map and I think it’s just how unsatisfying everything is. The wonder weapons feel flat, the snowballs feel like a modded cheap trash mechanic, the hermit doing everything in the map is super unsatisfying, pack a punch is unsatisfying, waiting for the light to hit golden pack a punch is annoying, I ran into multiple bugs that sucked, and all of the personality of Call of the Dead is gone. I’m not an ee guy but I think the story was fine. I just think the gameplay feels cheap a lot like alpha omega but I think ao was quicker to the action with more fun areas. Tag is my least favorite bo4 map and one of my least favorite in general. I totally respect the higher ratings and as an on paper objective evaluation i think tag is in the 7 range, but I just do not enjoy it.
