If you can’t play AAA game offline it’s not AAA it’s a scum if they ask for $89.

What?
AAA games are fine, provided you do your homework and…
1. Don’t Preorder or Day 1 them;
2. Wait for a sale, is possible;
3. Wait for patches behind them to fix technical performance, bugs, stability, and/or anything else;
4. Wait for Complete Edition w/ all DLC’s and expansions;
5. And/or buy them dirt-cheap from Steam Sale, Bundle Sites, or whatever…
6. …Or just buy the game DRM-FREE from GOG…and check the forums to make sure it’s DRM-FREE first or any “accidental” DRM-nonsense (like DLC’s/Extra Content requiring Galaxy has been removed).

An indie game can go 4 ways
1. THIS IS THE BEST GAME AND AAA STUDIOS SHOULD TAKE NOTES
2. This is like a AAA game but has a twist (usually artstyle/graphics or a gameplay twist)
3. Unfinished development hell that either turns into abandon-ware or nothing like the game they started/promised from the beggining
4. “This is just a porn puzzle game”

Whats wrong with 4k Textures and Raytracing?

Ya know, it’s pretty likely you aren’t playing the good AAA games. It’s like saying writing in modern movies suck and your baseline for comparison was Marvel movies. Even then, few of them are good like Infinity war and GOTG.
2023 alone had so many good AAA titles. RE4 Remake, Zelda TOTK, FFXVI, Street Fighter 6, CP 2077 Phantom Liberty Expansion, Baldur’s Gate 3, upcoming Spiderman 2 etc. There’s so many. Same goes for last year. Elden Ring, GOW Ragnarok etc.

Lol. Indie studios as a whole have a worst avg release rsting than AAA studios as a whole.

OP never played red dead 2 I guess. Or Witcher 3, bioshock, Spider-Man, ratchet and clank, TLOZ, horizon, ghosts of Tsushima, uncharted, last of us, Skyrim.
To name a few.

What games other than ea games are 90 bucks and have loot boxes and battle passes

I hate that most indies that look interesting to me are roguelite/likes. I feel like this genre has enough games in it at this point or maybe it’s just me not being a big fan of it.

You’ll be back. You know you’ll be back. There’s nothing like AAA gaming. You’ll come crawling back like they all do. You little slut.

I hate that there’s certainly a shade of truth in this meme, but the generalization and oversimplification kills it for me.
We can celebrate indies while properly spitting in trashy AAA companies with facts, no need to just throw in random non-bad features in the middle, nor pretend that all AAA studios are like that.
I mean, if there would be a war today between indies and AAA, I would totally die defending the indie hill. But let’s not generalize like this.

I started playing games when original doom and counter strike were out. Was someone who was always excited for new AAA titles.
The publishers have completely killed that excitement for me, I CANNOT get excited about a new game announcement anymore. The lies is whats really getting to me these days, just straight up fuckin lies.
Can’t believe there are still muppets who pre-order, how can you get so excited about something that seems to have like a 60% fail rate these days!
With like a 20-30% chance the publisher will completely lie to you about the game and not support it 1 year after release!
How can anyone get excited about games anymore…

A lot of my friends shit on me for playing old games, but you have to admit that newer games just aren’t attractive anymore. Sure there are some new games like Tears Of The Kingdom that came out this year, but that was developed by Nintendo, they hardly ever put out a shitty game.
I mostly play a mix of Left 4 Dead 2, Skyrim, Zelda Ocarina of Time (for the randomizer) and I’m sure there are some that I’m missing. I just want a good AAA game that doesn’t have a shit ton of micro transactions and that actually respects the player. I heard that Baldurs Gate 3 was pretty good in this respect.

Lootboxes, battle passes, high prices are definitely weaknesses of modern AAA games. But DLSS, 4K Textures, RT are the positive sides

Don’t forget the anti piracy measures/always online they use make the game run wayyy worse lmao.

Played demos for Jusant, Talos Principle 2, Gunhead, and Balatro over the weekend. All look to be beautiful, fun games. Jusant and Talos 2 are must-buys to me. Gunhead and Balatro look like great fun for when i am in a rogue-like mood. 🙂

The difference between an indie game and a AAA game is that the AAA game is accountable to investors, publishers, and other third parties who care solely about profit.
Even the term ‘AAA’ is trying to piggy back on financial markets, where AAA is credit rating for the high degree of credit worthiness, likelihood to meet payments, and low risk.
It would be better if we used terminology to accurately describe what they are – big budget productions that rely on hype and visuals to sell their software, with quality gameplay being a distant third.
