Many many plot holes, shallow story, simple characters. But boy did I love it. The world building and cinematography was so good. Set design, props and asthetics was made for me. I love the exploration of cyber punk in different countries, and how their cultures translate to the genre. It was a really refreshing watch and have been wanting to see it again as soon as I finished.

  2. Amazing visuals, movie had great potential but needed at least 3 extra hours to fix all the plot holes, but still enjoyable.

Its better than avatar that’s for sure, I at least remember the name of the characters after the movie was done

Third “grassroot” post about the film this week. The marketing is strong with this one.

I thought the movie was incredibly mediocre and there are moments in the film where I was seething with anger. Don’t get me wrong, I thought it looked gorgeous and the scenery definitely won me over visually, but the story and acting was just miserable. I really don’t think that John David Washington is a good actor and I’ve never seen him and anything that makes me think otherwise. However, is character was also poorly written so he can’t shoulder all that blame.

I was about to write it off as one of the worst movies I’ve seen this year, but then I had to remind myself that the audience that will keep this movie alive is more likely in southeast asia. If this movie is able to recuperate its production costs and marketing, it’ll probably be because of the Asian market. I read an article saying that its global box office was heavily influenced by how well it was selling over there. And in that case, I think as a movie that showcases a black main character who is not an aggressor, nor someone who is in a violent default state, is actually quite beneficial at showcasing diversity. The movie is definitely not for me, but I could definitely see how there’s an audience out there for it.
