As you know, most mid-entry level graphics cards are limited to 8 lanes. Even though these cards are limited to 8 lanes, they come with 16 lanes, again being installed in a 16-lane size slot. In other words, even though the connection part of the board is long, not all of the lines are electrically connected. ASUS, on the other hand, thinks that these high-speed SSD storage solutions can be used instead of fake strips. The presented concept design includes an installed Samsung 980 PRO 2 TB SSD of the RTX 4060 Ti model. If this idea comes to fruition, there are basically extra expansion slots in addition to the M.2 slots. It may even be possible to use M.2 SSD on low-end motherboards that have an M.2 slot.
**Its really becoming real, GPU’s are slowly becoming the PC itself**

Think there is 4060 or 4060ti with anime picture with nvme slot

Adding a M.2 slot to a GPU is a cool way of getting more out of the PCIe x16 (requires host bifurcation support, won’t work for everyone), but the M.2 is still completely independent to the GPU.
You can buy PCIe to M.2 adapters. They’re $10 or so. I have a few. They work for everyone. They’re a much cheaper and more efficient way to add storage than saddling yourself with a GPU which has middling to negative reviews.
Shit I gotta buy a GPU for my GPU now
This would honestly be amazing
as long as i can get a backplate big for my huge tittied waifu i dont care
Maybe a bit stupid question but would this also allow M.2 NVME SSDs or just regular M.2
Seems like a conflict of ideas. Let’s potentially hobble this GPU for some small cost reduction, but also make it larger and more complicated and require advanced motherboard features
Most motherboards come with 2 m.2 slots. Very rarely does someone need more than that, while also using a card with only pcie x8. I’d rather have a card that’s a couple euros cheaper than a card with this feature.
What are the chances of this working with DirectStorage specifically?
I am annoyed it’s Assus (boycotting) because I’d reward this kind of innovation if it was anyone else. Hopeful for an ASRock 7600 which would be cooler too
At this rate gpus will become the main board.
Good thing these GPUs actually have enough pins for x16, even though they can’t utilize it. My old RX460 was x8 and only had half of the pins

Explain to me like im 5 pls
Imagine using that SSD as VRAM
Better solution would be, to let the Mainboard handle this.
For example the Gigabyte Z590 Vision D uses a switch. It can limit the first PCIe Slot to 8 instead of 16 lanes. So, if your GPU doesn’t need 16 lanes, you can use a full second PCIe slot as a 8 lane slot.
Only problem is, that it can lead to confusion by people not reading the manual or at least looking at the pictures.
I have exaclty no idea what I’m looking at.
Need to see thermal testing, will the GPU heat up the NVME drive?
Wonder if hitting the GPU+NVME at the same time brings thermal throttling.
