My ASROCK Taichi motherboard is showing error code 00. I took out my 8700k to check for bent pins in the socket and ended up finding these different looking contact points on the chip.
What does error code 00 mean with your motherboard?
LaceyForever
Error code 00 on POST is usually a CPU issue so it’s very possible it could be dead.

Either those are scratched, or it’s some kind of residue on the pads causing it to not contact the pins. Did you try wiping that stuff off?

Have you tried CPR?

Hopefully

The CPU might not be – I’d clean those contacts – but the pins that caused that will be very unhealthy.

They’re just contacts. Check the pins on the motherboard. Why are they marking your cpu like that?
Id think it was more of a damaged cpu slot than anything. If you have a microcenter or something nearby, maybe they can test your cpu.
Nub_McWeaksauce
It looks like residue, try wiping it off with Isopropyl alcohol.

yes , my condolences. it was a nice chip

It looks like thermal paste to me, I did the same thing to my am5. Try rubbing alcohol and a soft bristle brush to see if it helps

Take an eraser (rubber) and rub all of the gold pads on the cpu.
Like really run them good and blow away all of the debris.
Yes it sounds crazy.
Yes it works I’ve done it a lot.
Works on ram too.

Congratz on finding a way to ruin an intel chip. Ive seen people drive their cars over them and they still work.

I would try to buff out the damage. I notice there is a chip on the substrate near the damaged area too, did you drop it? Or something was dropped on it?
At any rate, I could get a very fine cloth and some IPA and try to buff it out. Let it dry completely before trying to fire it up again.
Godspeed friend.

I recommend the new series of amd chips AM5 to be specific pair it with a mobo on black Friday you’ll have your self one hell of a computer.
