I found it funny that Johnny’s subtitles used the registered trademark symbol. I know diegetically that it’s probably whatever software is writing V’s subtitles that inserted it, but I feel like Johnny himself would object pretty strongly to that.

That’s because Kevlar is actually a product from DuPont company, and they Trademark the name out of it.
Its like saying “i want Tabasco sauce for my steak”
Tabasco is not a kind of sauce, its the brand name of the sauce itself
And DuPont has a guided rule how do you use Kevlar in multiple media
They published a PDF files like a guidline how you allowed to use Kevlar name
Not every brand like that tho, for example Porsche in the game doesnt need trademark logo everywhere

I know it’s likely for IRL copyright reasons but I love the idea there are words you HAVE to say “trademark limited” after or you immediately get cyber sued.
Like maxtac but instead of cyberware goons it’s a bunch of lawyers that immediately appear and trial you for breaching copyright.

Yeah I just ran into that yesterday and I was surprised they didn’t just use a term like ‘armor’ or ‘vest’ so that they wouldn’t have to include the little trademark symbol. Not that it’s a huge deal or immersion-breaking or anything lol I don’t mind it at all, but it would be a quick simple re-write to avoid using the trademark symbol and have it look a bit better in the captions. I kinda have a hunch that they just recorded the line and realized afterwards that they would have to throw in the trademark logo. They figured theyd much rather do that than bring a voice actor back in just to record one line, so they stuck with it. The only reason I think that is because it’s the only time anywhere in the game that a symbol like that appears in dialogue. Of course I could be overthinking things a bunch and nobody really cared and they just didn’t mind using a trademarked word from the get-go even though they knew they’d have to include the little registered logo. Because that’s entirely possible as it’s nothing serious. Maybe they were dead set on referring to it as Kevlar for the sake of the script 🤷♂️ but yeah it seems like something that just kinda slipped in and they were like fuck it whatever slap that little symbol on there if we have to it’s not a big deal 😋
