Are you really telling me there are more gamers with a 4060ti than an 6700xt?

    >Are you really telling me there are more gamers with a 4060ti than an 6700xt?

Yes, 100%. Nvidia outsells AMD by 9 to 1, roughly. Nvidia holds 87% marketshare, and AMD and Intel split the rest. (AMD 10%/Intel 3%)

There are more users with a 4090 than there are with a 6700xt, in fact. lol

  2. 737Max-Impact

Enthusiasts always significantly overestimate how much the average person cares about their hobby. For 90% of gamers a “new GPU” means the geforce 60 / 70 card of the latest generation.

Or just a new prebuilt, which will almost always come with an nvidia card, because that logo might as well mean “gaming pc” when it’s displayed on the box.

  3. Desperate-Intern

Contrary to what it may perceived on reddit, majority (by a lot) still prefer Nvidia.

  4. JASHIKO_

It would be interesting to see the CPU version of this. I think AMD would have a decent share of the pie vs Intel.

  5. cs-cgp-cfa-acca-geek

People are brainwashed to auto buy Nvidia at this point so this isn’t surprising. This is good and bad, bad overall for the industry ofc and good for the minority of enthusiasts who get insane deals on AMD because of it.

  6. SeaNewspaper5939

    After 30 years nvidia, i went with a 7900xt

    and i couldn’t be happier

  7. Astrikal

All of these answers are wrong. The reason for the very low marketshare of AMD GPUs on Steam is that Steam CAN NOT detect AMD GPUs properly. Most of the time, it reports the GPU as Generic Graphics or Radeon Graphics.

If you want to know the actual marketshare of the products, check the market analysis reports. Here are the approximate market share of dGPU vendors:

    -Nvidia: %80
    -AMD: %15
    -Intel: %5

I buy nvidia because I only know the numbers and “language” of Intel CPU and Nvidia cards. Really wanted a AMD card this last GPU purchase but my research didnt get me enough confidence to do so before the day came. Guess when I build a brand new pc in the future, I will go with AMD. But for now I stick to what I know. Either way when I compared equivalent cards, they were roughly the same price in my country.

  9. pocketpc_

Nvidia outsells AMD by a huge margin for a few reasons.

They have all the mindshare among casual PC gamers (i.e. people who don’t even know that this subreddit exists).

They have the OEM/pre-built market on lockdown.

They have drivers and features that AMD just can’t seem to match. RTX and DLSS sell more GPUs than any AMD fan wants to admit (and this is coming from an AMD user).

  10. DominoUB

I will continue to buy nvidia until AMD or Intel can properly compete. FSR is worse than XESS. AMD is essentially non-existent for AI applications. Launch drivers are awful. The only thing they win on is price and I don’t replace my GPUs that often to care.

” Are you really telling me there are more gamers with a 4060ti than an 6700xt? ”

Even worse, there are more gamers with 4090 than any Radeon 5000/6000/7000.

This chart is the best representation how bad the public perceives AMD Radeons, and totally worth it. Also confirming that all of those fanbois online are a minority, if they dont push them to get better, then you will get a forever crap driver. Btw i love RGB hair on BF 2042, a known issue for years now. Get on the game stop playing the underdog, simple has that.

  12. This year’s sales more interesting tho, its 50-50.

  13. aliusman111

Bro there are a ton of AMD in your screenshot. What are you talking about 🙂

  14. Colt_Coffey

Using a AMD card for the first time right now and it will be the last. The drivers are absolute garbage. Right now the last 3 drivers cause freezes. Before I knew it was the drivers I thought my PC was dying because the entire system froze up and I had to restart the PC by power button.

  15. KillBroccoli

Out of stock everywhere? I still have to see here in Italy in a major retailer any 7700 or 7800. They are available only through online often dubious resellers

  16. Stargate_1

To be honest when I bought the 3070Ti I honestly thought raytracing and DLSS would be important to me…

Turns out I dont care about either, in Hindisght it was a poor decision to opt for this card.

  17. FunkyMonkey-5

I have a 6950xt. It is a really good card.

  18. Indifferent_Response

AMD drivers are ass(currently the adrenaline software refuses to open) but price trumps all for me going on 10 years. it’s not like I couldn’t play whatever I wanted anyways.

  19. Uryendel

Welcome to the real world where people won’t let go key features to gain marginal perf/dollars

  20. cesaroncalves

The average person doesn’t really understand a lot about computers, and they will want what they see on the mainstream, be that youtubers, streamers or just what publicity shows them, and this is where NVidia shines, they spend a LOT more in publicity than AMD.

How many streamers or youtubers do you know that have AMD?

  21. > Are you really telling me there are more gamers with a 4060ti than an 6700xt?

Only slightly, and Nvidia has very tight deals with prebuilt builders.

It’s only people who build their own who tend to favour AMD. Dell, HP, etc. are Nvidia houses.

  22. Throwawayiscool123

I would buy an AMD GPU if I only wanted to game with my PC. But as soon as you want to do something productive like AI Stuff, Blender or any other GPU intensive task AMD is just not an option.

Most Programms are so optimized towards CUDA that some things even don’t run with an AMD GPU or are a hustle to get to run

  23. AMD is in the console market 😄 lucky that Nvidia has not invaded that one as well

Based on Switch 2 rumours, looks like there might be a shift 👀

  24. mkvii1989

I mean I for one literally can’t fit one with adequate cooling in my case. Even the 7800xt line are all like 330mm and my case max is 315.

  25. Cautious-Treat-3568

AMD users are too lazy to do the survey.

  26. Ok-Acanthisitta9127

The last AMD GPU I bought was a 9200SE. Since then, it has been Nvidia. Reason? Well, I just feel that each time I upgrade my GPU or want to get a new one, Nvidia’s offering is better, though usually priced higher. Laptops, well, over the years for work laptops it has AMD graphics inside, so maybe it counts or not, but my own GPU purchases have been Nvidia since the last ~20 years.

    9200 SE > 8800 GTX (pre-built) > GT 240 > GTX 460 > GTX 970 > GTX 1080 Ti > RTX 3080 Ti & RTX 3090

  27. Auswulf7

A personal observation the hardware survey didn’t really show up for three of my AMD graphics cards. I have had a RX 570, RX 5700 and RX 6700 XT.

Only a few months ago, Steam asked after I upgraded from my RX 6700 XT and installed a RX 6800 into my system.

  28. Ordinary_Player

AMD cards only exist on reddit. Pretty much everyone buys an Nvidia

  29. In the bin as a result of the fact that their drivers are a pile of trash, and they’re always late to the party.

    I have an RTX 3080. I then bought a 7900XT to upgrade.

    Guess which one I’m using?

  30. Every second pre built rig out there has a 3060 so that’s no surprising. Unless you’re building yourself, chances are 80% of what’s sold is also Nvidia. That’s why I’m actually building one myself.

  31. Yodawithboobs

I am surprised that only 1/4 of all gamers use old obsolete garbage cards, expected it to be higher to be honest.

  32. GTMoraes

Yes. Nvidia cards are just better for overall usage. Better at productivity (CUDA beats anything down, with an iron pipe), better features in games (better upscaling/better ray tracing), better at drivers.

I just hope ATI/the graphics division of AMD somehow pulls a Ryzen sometime.

  33. Yodawithboobs

And is doing catch-up with nvidia so why bother with inferior cards with less features?? Nowadays AMD cards are closer to Nvidia performance whise but still uninteresting because of their unoriginality, every new features are copied from Nvidia, there is hardly anything AMD is known to have that Nvidia lacks.

  34. Dragon_211

Been using the 5700xt for years, it’s an amazing card

  35. AssistantVisible3889

If I be honest personally when I was building my pc i straight up went for Intel and Nvidia because it was very easy to understand the models and their names but with AMD I don’t get which is higher or lower (i mean at glance if you are just ranking them by reading their names )

I might be wrong but i still dk much abt AMD cards nor feel like getting to know them

Maybe Nvidia is really good at marketing their products

  36. Sterrenbeeld

AMD is year and years behind Nvidia, and even the tech they share is inferior to the Nvidia tech. DLSS vs. FSR, DLSS wipes the floor with FSR. Drivers are better on Nvidia side. RTX performance is still questionable on AMD cards. Going with Nvidia is a much safer bet for almost every casual gamer, you can be sure that you will get the top of the line new tech, while with AMD you might need to wait 5 years to get what Nvidia has now.

  37. SnooRevelations8420

AMD users make me think of Americans. They believe that they’re the best and proudly preach it but when you actually start doing research, the total opposite is true, they might be good at a single thing.

For reference, the only thing the states is best at is unnecessary war and propaganda

  38. GeovaunnaMD

AMD is not streamline, any normal person wants to game on a PC they will get a Nvidia card.

Enthusiasts will go towards AMD as it’s less plug and play to get optimal results. Aka more fun

  39. IlTossico

That’s easy to understand, people prefer quality products.
Like, all those people telling you that AMD CPU work better, and then you see the steam survey and Intel still have more than 70% of share.
