Hi guys. I’m searching for a new CPU+Mobo combo to match my newly bought 3070.
Currently looking at the 12400 + b660m Mortar combo. However I stumbled upon [der8auer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8diXDeTDCbo&ab_channel=der8auerEN) and [HU’s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QzHwbN5MBw&ab_channel=HardwareUnboxed) videos about backclock overclocking 12400 (f variant is ~$130) with b660m Mortar Max (~$170), which is only $30 more than the regular Mortar (~$140) in my country.
I have a few questions:
– Would the CPU warranty voided if anything bad happens while doing blck OC? How would they know if it was caused due to the OCing itself?
– Performance uplifts from the above videos were around 20-30%. Seems too good to be true. Do you agree or saw similar increases in FPS?
– Would this type of OC put a heavy strain on the CPU? Like reducing lifespan from around 7 years to only 3 years for example?
I’m trying to gauge if this is worth it compared to buying a normal Mortar board and not doing OC.
Trying to get the most of out of my budget. Average income here is only 1/10 compared to the US. And it’s likely that I would upgrade again in 3-4 years.

I mean, before you even get anywhere, good luck finding a motherboard that still supports BCLK OC on a current BIOS and Intel ME firmware version.
That MSI motherboard is not guaranteed to work, is what I’m saying. Also, you don’t have a clear upgrade path as BCLK OC / non-K OC only works with 12th gen.
In short, this is a pointless exercise. Save the money now. Buy a better CPU after a year or so. The headaches induced just to get this working aren’t worth it.
