Bought HP printer which came with two sets of cartridges. After the initial set done, plugged in the extra color cartridges.

HOWEVER, in order to use them you MUST subscribe to HP instant ink to use the cartridges that were including in the box. Pretty scummy behavior.

Perhaps they figure people forget they are subscribed and just keep collecting fees?

I don’t need to print often, but when I do I really do.

Yeah, my old HP printer decided to update a little while back. Forcing me to buy overpriced ink. $200 later to get it working again. It decided to break.

    HP is just junk.

  2. Signed up for HP Instant Ink with a preloaded online $1 “credit card”. Keep reusing the same card on a new fake email each time you swap carts. It’s annoying and stupid, but the cheap ink makes up for the hassle.

Is brother still good? Fuck subscribing for ink lol

  4. This is why I got rid of my HP printer. It’s garbage. I bought overpriced ink for it once, and went months without printing something. When I went to finally print, lo and behold all the ink was ‘dried’ up. Owning a printer and spending that much on ink is not justified for how little I print stuff.

Knew a guy who subscribed to HP instant ink for a few months. He ended up with more cartridges than he could use at the time, so he canceled his subscription. HP disabled all of the cartridges remotely.

I used to work for HP and the main thing I learned is to never buy HP.

Seems the common trend here is people ditching HP for Brother. I went from HP to Epson and finally to Brother. Never going back to either one of them. My Brother laser printer has been flawless!

I hated HP for this, old printer’s touchscreen didn’t work because I was using ink cartridge from an offbrand that was cheaper but yet it would still print fine.

I been using their cheap $50 laser jet for over 4 years and never looked back at ink since

Cartridges are being sold on platforms like eBay for $7-$14 dollars.
Also HP printers are one of the worst due to this scam. That’s why they are the cheapest printers.

The FTC really needs to investigate this practice. Or better yet the EU.

  11. Switch to Epson ecotank. Ink lasts forever and costs a quarter of what HP cartridges cost.

My parents have used HP printers for years and I finally got them to switch to an Epson and the fucker works with no issues or need for invasive software.
Good riddance HP and I’m glad I never ran into this.

  14. HP is trash. I sent a laptop for repair once, and a tech called me several weeks later asking if he could play Spore on my machine. I was so taken aback that I didn’t know what to say other than “I’d prefer you repair and return it, but I can’t stop you.” I grew more upset the more I thought about it afterwards.

I know how that sounds, too, and have no way to prove it. How’d an individual tech get my number? Why didn’t he just play it instead of asking? I have no answers to these questions.

I never subsequently used a single other one of their products. Fuck HP.

HP has always been the absolute worst printer brand. I got a cheap all-in-one Canon MX a few years ago and the difference was like day and night.

Why did HP turn into the EA of printers
