Hey guys,
I’m new to this and started to educate myself about undervolting. While 99% claim this is safe and the worst that could happen is a crash, I found one comment which claimed it can cause damage in the long run.
“There is some reasons not to do this, mainly: you will be under powering the capacitors which can result in the card not getting enough power to operate as it is normally meant to. While much safer than overclocking, under clocking is NOT a 100% safe and guaranteed way to lower temperatures without damaging the card. You should really be lowering the system’s power setting, which lowers the power draw to the power supply, then safely delivers it to the card. Or just increase the fan speed, as they are much more reliable than people think these days… By under-volting you are also asking the computer to provide the same power to the PSU with a new draw for the GPU, as well as force the other components to work at base speeds……. Google is not always right. You can also simply lower the target temperature or power target, but for the love of god stop playing with the core speed and memory clock. Doing this instead will tell the card to simply chill out when the target is hit. You literally have the variables that say “LIMIT” on them for a reason… If you still don’t believe me I did this to prevent my 2080 from going above 70c, no mining just gaming. After about 8 months it stopped running cool (no matter what..) and eventually caused crashes. Had to be RMA’d, no i didn’t tell them I underclocked.” from this video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9K4PSqxoYg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9K4PSqxoYg)
Could somebody say what he thinks about this?
Thanks in advance
