How would you rate Blood of the Dead on a scale of 1-10? I’ll start:

I love Blood, but I think 8/10 is abit too generous. The scalpel is cool, but the quest is not worthwhile imo considering golden spork + ethereal razor is an infinite one hit already just not on wardens. Only 1 fast travel is strategically placed, the other is only really used for the retriever and they should have added one that brings you to the docks. I would give it a 6.5 or 7/10.

8.5, absolutely phenomenal map, does Mob of the Dead justice and then some. Aldo, it has quite a few detriments, the unexplainable removal of the Golden Gate Bridge, moving Pack-a-Punch.. and a couple overly complex Main Quest steps (Power House).

I don’t see the Boss Fight as a con, even though fellow BOTD enjoyers count it as one. It’s supposed to be a pallette cleanser for all the crap you just went through.

The moving pack on this map is insanely bad. The ‘fast travel’ takes 15-20 seconds for the animation. The over reliance of the shield for the EE and needing it for pack is ridiculous and its key kills so slow compared to every other shield. The high rounds are way too easy and boring with that one trap. Forcing the player to get rid of their chosen grenade for the free blundergat and EE feels like it goes back on BO4’s loadout system that was such a big deal especially since you can’t switch back. The core of the map is awful but the dressings (side EE’s, atmosphere, storyline) are great but the map still sucks ass. A shit with glitter and sprinkles if you will. Worst map on BO4 and it’s not even close. 3.5/10

8/10. If the PaP had an indicator showing where it is and shield blasts were easier to get (1 zombie = 1 blast?), I would rate it even higher.

4/10. Butchers many of the things that make Motd fun. They took one of the most open maps in terms of progression and routes you can take during a match and made it so there is basically one path to power, removed afterlife, gave it a horrible PaP system, added areas that make it take way too long to traverse, and made other various mistakes like having zombies spawn as soon as you reach the top of the gondola and removing the interaction where you can grab power ups through the cell gate with the hells retriever. It also made the story of mob worse and less mysterious by explaining exactly what the hell dimension is, and has a mostly tedious easter egg. Most of the good things about the map Mob already had, and the only new things I can think of that it did well are the Magmagat, the ending cutscene, and some of the new side easter eggs. Its a perfect example of how not to remake a map. Not to mention its in Bo4 and you have to deal with the problems inherent to that game.

I really enjoy Blood, and while I understand why people were dissapointed by it, I can’t see the argument for how this is a bad map. Shit’s a good time, though it does certainly have flaws.

I agree, moving PaP is only fun when you can either traverse around the map quickly, or the game actively tells you where the PaP went, ala DE or Yoyage. Blood does neither of these. I can’t express the pain in my heart when I go up to the rooftop, only to realize that I have to walk all the way back down to the power house just to PaP my gun. If they *had* to keep it as is, you should’ve been able to use an afterlife charge to move it to the area you wanted it to be at. I don’t like walking around the entire map in spectral vision looking for that ghost wolf for the Redeemer. And speaking of, the Redeemer is wayyy less viable, solely because of BO4’s mechanics. With only one slot for equipment, you’re going to have to swap out your current equipment for it, and some people just wanna keep their Wraithfires/Monkey Bomb. It’s unchanged in terms of power, but it definitely feels worse because of the game it’s in, sadly. Any EE with morse code in it is made worse for having morse code, imo. And lastly, while it wouldn’t make sense for Primis to go there, no Golden Gate Bridge is definitely a shame, especially considering every other area was pretty faithfully created.

Now, for the pros! And there’s quite a bit to list. Mob’s setting was already wonderful, and Blood only adds to it, creating a hellish, creepy atmosphere once again. The new areas are really nice. They’re the best type of new areas for an established map, they feel like they were there the whole time, they just weren’t accessible until now. I love the beginning of this map. You moving from Richtofen’s lab, turning on the fakeout power switch, and ascending the catwalk as a metric fuckton of Zombies and hellhounds make their way towards you. Brutus joins the scene and cuts the power to the main building, and you fight your way into the prison. If you survive, you’re greeted to the Mob starting room, a remix of Mob’s loading screen music, and the map properly begins. This map feels a lot more cinematic then most, and I really love that. The catwalk segment has still yet to get old, for me. The Blundergat and Acidgat return, and are made even better because of the new health cap! In addition, the Magmagat is reletively simple to obtain, and is a really good upgrade. It’s lava acting like a monkey bomb, and disintegrating all the undead that touches it. Shit’s really fun to use. The Hell’s Retriever and Golden Spork also return, the spork in particular having an absurdly in depth quest to turn it into the Golden Steakknife, allowing it to kill zombies and Brutus forever. This combined with Ethereal Razor is some of the best shit in the game, not gonna lie. The Spectral Shield is a really cool utility, stealing the souls of undead so that you can use them as a shield blast, charging up electrical equipment and decimating the undead. Sick design, too. It’s the standin for Afterlife, and it does the job fairly well. Still the best ending cutscene for an EE in the series. Legitimately still gets me occasionally. The new rendition of Where Are We Going is easily in my Top 5 EE songs. And the last one I’ll mention, the trailer for this map is fucking incredible. Watch it again if you haven’t in a while, *man* it’s good. And man, *Blood* is good.

Worse then Mob? Yeah, I can comfortably say that. A bad map? Not at all, there’s a lot I can really appreciate about it, and it has so much of what made Mob unique, while having it’s own identity. 8.5, I quite like it
