In honor of Origins releasing a decade ago, how would you rate the map on a scale of 1-10? I’ll start:

My second favorite map, would be genuinely perfect with reliable fast travel like Wunderspheres or teleporters. The only other issue I have is how dependant it is on guides. I live the map play it all the time. Unless your a pro player you don’t have time to memorize all the symbols and generator switches for the staff upgrades.

Honestly I find it hard to say anything bad about this map. Despite it getting old after a while doing the same thing every time. However playing with randoms definitely helps make it less stale with the room temp IQ people play with. Almost everything from the map was good except it taking 3 weeks even with slide jump to cross the map.

    9.5-10

    You’re goddamn right it’s a 9.7

  4. I pretty much agree with your list. The only things I would add is the mud and the repeated Samantha lines if you don’t do the Easter egg steps as negatives. The addition of the wonder fizz and the generators instead of a power switch as positives.

    9.5/10

Holy shit it’s 10 years old, I played this shit at release back when I was young enough that I really *shouldn’t* have played it. Fucking love this map, but it does have a few cons.

You could argue this was the start of what I would call the “pull up MrroflWaffles” era of Zombies. You always had to look guides up for the EE, and that’s more then okay. But when the actual setup process got fairly complex as well, that turned a lot of people away. I’ll preface, I’m absolutely not one of those people, and for Origins specifically, getting set up ain’t too bad. But this was definitely the beginning of some people saying “why isn’t this mode just about pointing guns and shooting Zombies, anymore”. So I feel like I need to mention it. I don’t like the Templar Zombies. I feel like the map would be immensely improved if they just didn’t exist. They do provide an extra thing to do, and a max ammo if you time them correctly, but I dunno, they just interrupt the gameplay too much. And lastly, that Easter Egg ending. For how great the actual EE is, without BO3 for context, we were meant to assume that all of this was just an in-universe game, and I gotta say, what a slap in the face.

Now, onto things I enjoy, which is almost all of it! The environment is top notch, the trenches of World War 1 with giant steampunk robots traversing the map, the Crazy Place, and a hidden underground temple of sorts, to house the Staffs. Also, I like the color blue, and that’s all over this one, which is something I appreciate. This was the debut of Primis, who’d I argue would all go on to probably be the best characters in CoD itself, not just the Zombies mode. They’re human, tragic, and still humorous when the moment calls for it. The Panzer is an amazing boss, and immensely threatening. There’s a reason “Panzer on round 8” caught on, if you aren’t decently set up by then, kiss your run goodbye. This map has *so* many cool exclusive standard weapons, especially on BO2. The Mauser, Ballista, SCAR-H, KSG, MGO8, the Skorpion Evo, this weapon selection is top notch. And the Wonder Weapons? Well, they’re awesome too! Four elemental staffs, one for each player (the first time all 4 players could get that maps specific wonder weapon(s), I believe). They’re all really fun to use, and in a convoluted process, can be upgraded to greater heights! Really love these things. The G-Strike and One Inch Punch/Iron Fist are also really fun to both obtain and use, G-Strikes in particular being a really cool replacement for the Monkey Bomb. Like in Mob, there’s a universal part inventory! And everyone can pick up an unlimited amount of them! Thank god they stuck with this way of tracking parts. The Easter Egg is sick! Not a dull step here imo, except maybe putting the staffs in the robots. Also really cool that the steps match those that Reznov and the others used to escape Vorkuta. This was also the beginning (besides Call of the Dead, but that EE’s *real* short) of 1 player EE’s! Which thankfully, all main quests going forward would follow. …Except Shadows, for some reason. And lastly (though there’s a lot I could say for this map), that PaP camo. Still might be the best one, honestly. Top 5 for sure.

This map paved the way for everything to come. That can be a good or bad thing, depending on how you view the rest of Zombies going forward. For me, it’s a positive, 100%. I said before that Mob’s the closest to a perfect map, and I’ll stand by that, with how beginning players can fairly easily pick it up. But I definitely like maps such as Origins more, despite it absolutely not being beginner friendly, and having a few cons here and there. 9.6 out of 10, just barely like it more then Mob and Buried

To me, this map is a 10 and in contention for my favorite of all time (I’m way too indecisive to actually have a single definitive favorite map of all time, but the contenders are the usual suspects), but I don’t think it, or any other zombies map is perfect. Every map has its flaws as big or small as they may be, and because of that when I give a map a 10 I just mean it’s as good as I think a zombies map can be and the flaws don’t bother me too much.

one big thing they could have done is make the outline of the gramophone be the color of which tunnel its in. Yellow outline for wind, Blue for Ice and so on. Too many times rando’s have just left the gramophone in the tunnel after grabbing their stone that i gotta run around and find it

  8. originsspeedrunner

10/10 best map in cod zombies for me

  9. I agree with everything except that it has the best setting. Mob easily beats it imo and even buried I think takes second in terms of setting

  10. WaltuhDaZombieSlayuh

Will you be posting Shadows next?

  11. Lembueno

I give it a solid 8-8.5… I’m not a fan of maps that require a lot of set up.

However it is to this day the map I have my highest achieved round on.

  12. almost a perfect map, only thing it needs is a better fast travel method than the tank

  13. Medical-Algae-593

If shadows is higher then origins this list goes down the drain, 9.7 is crazy just give it the 10

  14. One of my favorite maps in zombies. My only problem is that while the easter egg can be done on solo it’s made more for co op. I wish it was more like der eisendrache and you only needed to build and upgrade one staff and only needed to put one staff in one of the robots if you’re on solo.

I can get to gen 6 to kill the templars from spawn ez. Skill issue if you cant get to a generator on time
