The menu is somehow worse to navigate than the MWII menu after all this time. Update on top of update and still doesn’t download the campaign. Crazy how no game journalists mention this.

I stopped at Advanced Warfare with the switch to the new generation. I usually only play cod for the campaigns as I don’t like paying for online. That was in junior year of University.

Going back to the beginning, I remember seeing the commercial for Call of Duty: Finest Hour and it looked so visceral. My brother rented it but I didn’t get very far. A tank mission stopped me of course.

I remember when the Xbox 360 launched I played the Call of Duty: Big Red One Demo, it seemed cutting edge. I completely missed the third one, but everyone complained it was reductive as a different developer did it. 4 changed the game and I played every one up to AW, skipping Ghosts due to the bad reception.

A few years ago I played Black Ops 3 during a trial of PlayStation Now. Then last summer I paid $10 for Ghosts on eBay (the Nintendo Wii-U version because I wanted something different). I bought Infinite Warfare at the bargain bin and quickly traded it for WWII. Then I found I could rent the rest from a nearby library (except for Black Ops IIII.

This was the last one to play and while it was an improvement on MWII, the story is still confusing and is far too self righteous while being a hollow echo of the games its named after. Way less fun than the originals. They should have been sequels to the original trilogy.

I look forward to Sledgehammer Games’ Modern Warfare III because they tend to be straightforward storywise and they are remaking their own game which was their first game but this time as lead developer. Activision tends to run things into the ground and with an immediate sequel and a shorter marketing span I’m a bit worried, but them announcing the multiplayer and warzone will carry over is a smart straightforward next step. But they haven’t give modern since the original 12 years ago. I would’ve simply remastered the original MW3 at a discount.

Should I attempt to play the Specialist Missions on Black Ops 4? I hear mixed things and only play for the campaigns.

PS. This game had such a cool opening, I liked the revolutionary back story, but the rest just kind of sits there.
