Hi CompetitivePUBG’s subreddit,
With more and more tournaments being held in the Gulf countries, I was interested in everyone’s opinion about the following:
\- Does the location of a tournament affects how likely you are to watch it?
\- Does the prize pool add prestige/legitimacy to a tournament?
\- Do you care about where the money comes from?
First, I’m (fully) aware of the cultural gap there is between MEA and Western countries, and while I’m not perfect, I can easily recognize we are being taught by media to be highly skeptical and judgmental toward emerging countries. However, I have been there, and I can make an opinion by myself: there is something fundamentally wrong about these countries that I can’t get over.
I might be the one being too sensible, but Middle-East countries are for the most part built on oil money, which is a business where you convert fossil resources into money “as fast as possible” without any consideration for the planet or the environment. I know they export 99% of it, and I should blame myself first for purchasing oil-based products (fuel, plastics, etc…), but eventually, I, as an individual, have very little power over how the economics works, and despite all the efforts I may do to reduce my consumption of fossil resources, the only thing that’ll stop this massacre is when it’ll be too expensive to extract more of it.
On top of that, it sounds like a decent part of G8’s communication is built around money as a whole, and if you scroll through the G8’s Twitter, that’s most of their communication:

I don’t really want to get into political/ideological arguments, because it’s quite a dead end. I was mostly interested in everyone’s position on these topics (locations + money as the end goal), especially as it’s mostly “esportwashing”.
