I’m not going to lose sleep over this… But this does suck.
I loved Caldera. I loved Verdansk. I loved Rebirth. I loved Fortunes Keep. In short I loved the gameplay of WZ1. There were shit periods, but every update I was excited to play. It got us through some rough times, helped reconnect with old friends, and just had a feeling of one more game.
Even though they put it on life support, Ive still played more Caldera than WZ2. Servers still filled quickly. To know it won’t be possible to go back really seals the end of an era.
WZ2 is not good enough to replace that yet. Vondel is a good step, and I pray that the full BR Vondel makes up for the death of WZ1.
It also shows everyone that buying stuff for this game has a short max shelf life. I don’t see WZ2 lasting as long as WZ1 did. I’d predict WZ3 announced for Nov 2024 and WZ2 servers shutting down Sept 2025.

People will act like this is normal for older games and has nothing to do with them trying to force players on WZ2 but literally EVERY COD out there still has servers online. You can go play OG COD4 from 2007 if you want or Blackout from 2018 and it will find games.

I went from playing at least an hour a day and a few on weekends to never playing it at all. I have 3 total resurgence games in WZ2 where I have 1500+ hours on WZ1.

In a perfect world, Warzone 2.0 would have been a perfect port of Warzone 1 on the updated engine, with known technical issues ironed out, Verdansk returning alongside the introduction of Al Mazrah
