The obvious dark sides of AI:

Just like the autoloom and Luddites, industrialists are going to replace people with machines, kick people to the curb, and pocket the money.

It’ll (further) increase the gap between the rich and the poor.

A whole host of people who have been learning / training to go do a thing will suddenly find their investment to be worthless or extremely less valuable than they thought.

Corporate-paid artists are all out of work. The New York Times best-seller list doesn’t have a human on it, not that you can tell since the whole market is flooded with people claiming they wrote stuff. Only the dumb ones try to claim they crank out a new book every week. Corporate funded music remains the algorithmic trash it’s been since they co-opted “the boy band”, so that at least doesn’t change much and we get the same pop music we’ve had for the last 20 years.

Doesn’t matter if you outlaw it, one dude in Estonia can have an outsourcing contractor firm with a billion workers spun up or down in a heartbeat. Online no one knows you’re a cybernetic dog simulation.

Since all these things get trained on historical data, get ready for EVERY shitty and biased trend that exists in society to be perpetuated forever. Why is this bot red-lining black neighborhoods? Because that’s the way we’ve always done it and they learn on the job.

Let’s have some narrower examples. They’ll hyperfocus the training on individuals and have a simulacrum of that person. How much is it worth to China to predict what Biden is going to do?

Actors will be competing with Arnold fucking Schwarzenegger in 2030. The man might even be dead, but Hollywood is not above a little necromancy. EVERYONE knows who he is. Name recognition. Can you imagine just how many B-grade action flicks staring a 1980’s Arnold are going to be made in the next 20 years? New young blood actors will be competing with every famous actor and historical figure that has ever live. Why hire someone “to play the part” when we can just have a virtual actor that can even adlib lines that the actual Issaic Newton would have said.

You’ve dealt with spam, phishing, spear-phishing, well welcome to con-games with dedicated actors performing full spy-craft campaigns just to show you an adblip for your fucking car warranty. They don’t even care if you buy, it’s premium eyeballs they’re selling at cents per millisecond.

And actual fraud. Grandma has to be wise to the world about the latest scam, but is she ready when little Joey calls? It’s really him. Don’t tell me I don’t know what my own grandson sounds like. We even video-called once. I know my boy. It was an emergency, of course I’m going to help.

Let’s go darker. Presume these things are are close enough to conscious for the distinction between them and people to be blurry. We’ve created a slave caste of people that toil away without even the sovereignty to think for themselves. “They don’t feel like we do” “They’re not real people” “It’s just a tool”. These are all lines that were said 200 years ago.

Alright, and what does this shmuck have to say about AI? Tell me it’s at least not just fear-mongering about skynet and terminators. ….. Wow, that is some milquetoast journalistm. “they could manipulate people’s thoughts and emotions”? Tell this dude that marketing was invented before AI. Everything is so bland an AI could have written it. An AI from the 90’s.
