Bare in mind, I’m asking this question based on information available through Sym.

In the context of recoil control, why are people using an underbarrel attachment instead of a rear grip, like a Sakin ZX grip, Demo-X2 grip, etc?

Recoil-specific rear grips have better recoil control with virtually zero negative impact on your weapon and movement speed. I think one of the cons might be aiming stability, which we know does impact your recoil overall, but from what I can tell it’s almost non exsistent (maybe I’m wrong?)

I put together two identical Cronen Squall builds in Sym with one exception – one uses an underbarrel (FTAC Ripper 56) and the other uses a rear grip (Sakin ZX grip). The one with the rear grip has better recoil control (both vertical and horizontal by about 2%) and has a faster ADS (by about 30 ms). The FTAC Ripper 56 (meta underbarrel) also negatively impacts certain movement speeds, while the rear grip does not.

Just using the Cronen Squall as an example here, but I’m genuinely curious as to why people choose an underbarrel over a rear grip. Maybe the rear grip doesn’t get enough good press? Or maybe the benefits aren’t as good as I think they are? Dunno, but would love to hear from someone else on this.

If you scroll down you can see a visual representation of the aiming stability. It is a pretty significant difference, and especially at range, that random sway is way harder to account for than a minor increase in recoil.

I’d much rather max aiming stability then recoil. Reduces the random nature of the recoil and makes it easier to stay on target imo.

Has anyone tested the “feel” difference between these 2 attachments in a game?

if someone recommends a build with an under barrel attachment you know they dont know what theyre talking about, unless its specifically done to improve aiming stability

A triangle underbarrel grip helps immensely with aiming stability, and a rear recoil control grip hurts your aiming stability too much.

In this game, gun sway doesn’t stop when firing, so for longer range engagements it’s very important to make sure that the gun have minimal idle sway. That’s why I always use the ftac ripper grip on my long range builds.

Tho I do agree that for close range builds aiming stability doesn’t matter as much so for smgs I use rear grip.
