Today marks 6 years since the Zombies Chronicles DLC released. Zombies Chronicles provided 8 remastered Zombies maps from previous games: Nacht der Untoten, Verrückt, Shi No Numa, Kino der Toten, Ascension, Shangri-La, Moon, and Origins.

Before that, however, we got the final main map, Revelations, which included fractured portions of Nacht der Untoten, Verrückt, Kino der Toten, Shangri-La, Mob of the Dead, Buried, Origins, and Der Eisendrache.

And even a few maps before THAT, we got The Giant, which was a very faithful remake of Der Riese with the same layout and objectives, just with a few design changes to keep things somewhat fresh.

Not even including any fan-made Steam Workshop content which includes unofficial remasters/remakes/ports of maps from BO1 and BO2 that weren’t officially included in BO3, that means that all 4 WaW maps are playable on BO3, 4 of the 6 maps from BO1 are playable on BO3, and 1 of the 6 maps from BO2 are playable on BO3, with 2 more BO2 maps having accessible portions on Rev.

This means that BO3 has the most returning maps and areas of any Zombies game to this day. BO1 has 4 remasters of all WaW maps, BO4 has 4 remakes of maps from BO1 and BO2 as well as areas in Blackout that resemble past Zombies maps, CW has Nacht returning in Die Maschine and Forsaken, and Vanguard has a remake of Shi No. BO3 has the most “nostalgia content” and “fan service” of all Zombies installments

The cherry on top of this whole BO3 nostalgia conversation is the fact that even BO3 itself is already a nostalgic game for many players. Maps like Shadows of Evil, Der Eisendrache, Gorod Krovi, and even Zetsubou No Shima and Revelations, which were initially rejected by the community, are looked back at fondly as part of the “good ol’ days”

The only Zombies maps pre-BO3 that haven’t been officially remastered or remade yet are the Victis trilogy maps from BO2: TranZit, Die Rise, and Buried. In fact, only Buried has been somewhat acknowledged on both Rev and Blackout, with TranZit and Die Rise being seemingly disowned, probably because of how rejected they were by the community for a few years until the nostalgia started kicking in

Maybe someday Treyarch will attempt to improve those maps and make them better. TranZit was super ambitious for its time and was especially killed due to hardware limitations. CoD 2024 perhaps? 👀

…the flow of time is crazy

  1. Funny enough bo3 was the game where I stopped playing zombies. Only coming back to it after chronicles released
