There are plenty of variants on this concept going back a good decade or two. They rely on a given security camera having the right combination of adaptive exposure control and adaptive exposure control response time of just the right speed. Per-frame or very fast exposure control will adapt to the bright emitters helpfully clearly illuminating your face fast enough to capture your face during the illumination interval. Slow adaptive exposure response times will not respond by the time the active interval ends, and be correctly exposed to capture your unilluminated face. High dynamic range sensors (as are becoming more common in higher end security cameras) are just flat out immune to this sort of attack without pumping tens to hundreds of watts through the LED array.
It’s a great idea in theory, but pulling the hoodie further down your face is more universally effective at all sensor wavelength and against all camera framerates and exposure controls (and against any mk.1 Eyeball observers).

What about going the other way? Can’t you completely absorb the IR somehow? even enough, if you could reduce it down to a black shadow or patch, I don’t think it’d pick it up that much. I’m pretty sure that’s what modern army uniforms use.

That’s very very cool. They don’t have any red output? Some of the brighter infared LEDs I’ve worked with have been slighty visible to the naked eye, probably because they’re cheap and they’re doing some black body radiation or something.

As a Trade Tech. That has been robbed on multiple occasions, this just makes it all that much harder for me to protect what is mine.
Great idea for privacy protection in places like London Eng, but again, why do you need to hide your identity from IR based cams.

Wouldn’t it be better to rotate which one of the bright infrared lights are on so you have a rotating strobe effect while also maintaining a source of light that blocks the camera’s ability to see your face?

What if you have different LEDs pulsating opposite of the others? That way there is a constant flash to keep your face from being exposed between blinks?
In true cyberpunk fashion; corporate overlords already have ways to defeat this. It’s just a matter of time before they become widespread. e.g. Sony’s IMX490 CMOS sensor; would be able to see right through that if configured correctly
