Finally, someone said it! I was starting to think I was the only person here who can see beyond the scope of this sub and realize we’re just the vocal minority of a niche game mode that most people only play on occasion.
Unique-Steak8745
I hate it :(. They watered dwon zombies and made it more like War Zone so it was more commercial 🙁
TaterNuts178
Even on this sub, the comments don’t reflect the opinions of most voters. If you read the comments, you’d think DOTN is an automatic S-tier map, Kino is C-tier at best, Origins is overrated, BO4 is great, etc. But when there’s polls, DOTN is usually pretty polarizing, Kino is widely loved, and BO4 is considered about average.
If we brought in casuals, Kino would dominate every poll, and BO1 would probably be the most popular game. Tranzit would probably be pretty highly regarded, Mob and Origins well liked, Shadows would take a bit of a hit, DE as well.
Dry_Banana5319
I’m a hardcore zombies player and love the story however my best friend is just a casual player. Back on BO3 we would play the giant on repeat because of how casual it was. When Cold War came out it was a game changer, all of a sudden he was my go to man for all the Easter eggs. I’d say it changed for the better!
mrchrisker
The internet has a hard time realizing they are a minority of the community and a reddit community is a minority of that community.
Look at Minecraft with it’s mob vote reddit was dead set that the tuff golem would at least be in second place maybe even compete to win but wasn’t even close to second. That’s because the couple thousand people that participate on Reddit and YouTube aren’t the 3.5 million unique players that voted in the mob vote.
I’m not saying that devs should ignore online feedback however I think it’s such a slim amount of the player base I can see why they might disregard it especially when they can look at all these statistics and see what players do, what maps they enjoy, what weapons they use, how long the play etc…
the_cannonfodder
I’m a casual. I love Cold War zombies.
I just want to get home from work and shoot zombies for an hour
Gr3yHound40
Changed it in some great ways as well! Best movement and late’round scaling out of any of the titles. Running in circles for hours using traps and ammo types isn’t nearly as fun as having a fully upgraded street sweeper shotgun and freeze specialist, killing zombies faster than you and actually feeling tense as you dodge attacks and mantle over ledges.
FatFuckMcDsGunLover
I’m torn on cold war. On one hand it’s awesome I was able to do EEs with my brother and friends who are casual, and getting stoned and melting hordes without a second thought can be fun. The gunplay and other gameplay mechanics were so satisfying. Being able to be OP was fun at times but could also be a curse which leads me to my next point.
But at the same time, it seemed like the games always ended cuz we got bored and exfil’d, not cuz we were trying to beat our last record and get better. Without the soulless camo grind there wasn’t much keeping me replaying.
And it being easy is just one part of it. A meaningful crew, interesting maps, or an interesting story (it got decent after Mauer imo) would have went a long way into making this an amazing zombos experience. Some of the content felt lazy and like a precursor to vanguard.
But at the end of the day, if the numbers don’t lie and CW is the zombies mode most people have played and enjoyed, then they obviously did something right and I think they should continue with this style. Just add a crew and put more effort into the maps like the good old days, and I think most people would forget about the difficulty aspect or lack there of.
But I’m no vidgy game dev or expert so idk. Just give me extinction and you’ll never hear me complain again.
Trippy_Josh
I think the true fanbase is bo4 and earlier.
NovaRipper1
The problem for me is that zombies was worked for the way it did for years. It’s not like cold war was the second iteration. It was the 6th treyarch zombies game and not to mention all the other developers attempts. There is no excuse for the lack of characters. There is no excuse for lack of maps. The gameplay is so incredibly easy that I often cant believe its cod zombies.

WE NEED DIFFICULTY OPTIONS

If that was true, vanguard going so hard in the direction cw went with objectives and easy setup should have gotten them praise. It didn’t so I’m pretty sure your logic is flawed

As someone who comes from the competitive scene. This has held back the esport immensely

A game can be challenging and casual at the same time: WaW and Bo1 are perfect examples.

I would love to see what this meme would look like if they ditched the longer EE quests years ago.
Oh wait! This sub probably wouldn’t exist because zombies wouldn’t exist. Also wtf is this meme format.. it’s entirely misused lmao
THX450
This is like telling Star Wars fans on the internet that they’re the minority and a majority of people aren’t as heated and like everything just fine.
Thing is, the minority won’t listen nor care.
AlanM6
Yup which amazes me when people deny CW being the easiest zombies. It was on purposely designed like that to appeal to the casuals aka the majority of the players. Is unfortunate but business wise understandable.
MyOpinionsSuckBalls
I dislike PvP game modes, whether I’m good or bad at them doesn’t matter. I just need something with more depth, which is why I’ve always gravitated towards zombies and campaign. Unfortunately, battle royale and pvp being the standard isn’t a trend that will be dying off anytime soon. It’d be nice to see Zombies returned to its former glory but it’s probably best to keep our hopes low.
Jimi56
This sub was pretty elitist about quests and such. It seems like more people cared about how long it takes to solve a quest rather than if it is fun or not. I constantly see maps where the quest is solved in a day usually get trashed on for being too easy, I can’t recall anytime I’ve heard praises sung about Revelations EE when that one took the longest to solve. Less than 2% of players actually did them, that is why they got changed in the first place.
Me personally, I just don’t like maps where the set-up is just super complicated or takes a long time. Not even a casual problem either, I’m sure there are plenty of zombies fans who just don’t play those maps nearly as much. Me personally, I like to play a variety of games, and usually just play short bursts of zombies. I really can’t play those maps a lot with friends because they don’t have time to play them anymore.
Idk, that is just me saying my piece on zombies and the complexity of the mode.
ozarkslam21
Nice, at least one other person on this sub gets it!
you_wouldnt_get_it_
I was against its change in formula at first when CW Zombies first dropped but damnit it just clicks for me now.
It’s biggest flaw for me is just a lack of maps.
Vengance183
And the surprise as soon as they did change everything the game actually became fun.
Slimie2
It’s all about the atmosphere for me. Why else would Verruckt be my favorite map?

Yeaaa but chronicles was the top selling dlc of all time at one point so.. I agree but there’s a counter point kinda 🙂

to be fair I don’t think the sub as a majority hates CW… Vanguard on the other hand…. I don’t think there’s a good explanation
iwantParktotopme
Okay but I don’t want to hear anyone bitch about youtubers and the state of the community
MmmmDoughnuts21
While true… we can have both. Difficulty options would be huge.
Imagine cold war, but with an “enthusiast” difficulty where there was a minimal hud and it didn’t put on-screen indicators for power/pap. It would just play like normal zombies.
We can have both. Don’t settle.
The hype of the community around BO3 was in part because of this community. Casuals come here to figure out easter eggs. We all work together. We’re one community. We help survive together. We need each other, and that’s okay. We can all eat well, this can be a win-win.
So many games cater to both new and hardcore players. I’ll preach this all day-every day, but Doom Eternal is one of the most accessible games but has some of the most satisfying skill curves for hardcore fans.
Doom Eternal’s first DLC was incredibly challenging, so challenging that the second DLC was made substantially easier. Problem being, the hardcore community roasted it saying how easy it was.
Thankfully Hugo Martin came in and explained that they wanted campaign and its DLCs to be accessible to everyone and the hardcore fans can find their challenge in “master levels” (Like normal levels but insanely difficult and, at times, just cruel game design). It is the perfect balance. I LOVE it.
Oneboywithnoname
A good way too please both sides of the fanbase would be to make survival versions of complex maps, just like how tranzit has town
PigeonFellow
Cold War did so many things right. It was able to introduce many new players to the game (and old players trying to get back in) and it was a breath of fresh air. What I would hope to see next time is a difficulty changer, so that people can figure out what kind of level they enjoy most. I reckon that would do the franchise a world of good.
