They’re still the scariest zombies maps. None of the zombies maps are scary lmao
Gothicpotato6
I’m still scared of these maps and I’m 24
WUIDAWBTB
Definitely not scary, just have a creepy atmosphere
UsrnameInATrenchcoat
They aren’t traditional scary but the atmosphere is amazing on both maps and verruckt makes you feel cramped and in constant danger where as Nacht is just desolate and eerie with no hope
Puzzled-Ad3127
Yeah no the abandoned mental asylum with zombies wasnt scary at all
PurpleSausage77
I was 16 at the time. The menus alone seal the deal before even loading up the maps. WaW menu and music just gives the creepiest chill; a ghost of past unimaginable bloodshed of 70+ million souls during WW2. It’s what started me consuming/absorbing and learning all media that I could about WW2 because of that game alone.
Then the BO1 menu and it’s brilliance, that music, etc. it does have a cartoony Adams Family vibe to it as well though.
fearlessflyer1
probably the creepiest maps and the unforgiving WaW mechanics certainly makes me play defensively on those maps when id normally be aggressive on others
scary isn’t the perfect word, i’d go with unsettling or stressful. but they are the peak of whatever that is in the series
TaterNuts178
It’s not about shitting yourself when you play. It’s about feeling like you’re playing a zombies game rather than killing zombies in candy land. Also it’s undeniably pretty creepy to kill zombies in a Nazi asylum with screams of old patients, or an abandoned theater showing real life film of Nazi soldiers surrendering. Sue me if I prefer that over an Apothicon shit show in another dimension, or a bunch of operators saying “kill confirmed” on a military base lol.
To each their own though.
DemonSlaying
I remember it being scary
TheOneWhoKnocks268
Not scary, just eerie and honestly kinda creepy even nowadays, I can’t play Verruckt without getting chills hearing peoples’ screams of getting tortured
HollowPinefruit
Why do I feel that most people here haven’t played those maps back in the day when they released?
Both maps were unsettling as hell. And to compare with every map released afterwards, they still are. Scary might be a bit of a stretch though as none of them I can consider scary.
WaveSmashreddit
I haven’t played much non treyarch zombs, but imo Veruckt has the most “terrifying” atmosphere. Every time I play it, I just find it very stressful compared to literally any other map they’ve ever made.
JormungandrReptiResc
I was stationed in Afghanistan when the game came out and I remember people talking about the zombie mode in the game and thought it sounded stupid. Now those original maps are my favorites out of all the maps.
omega_to_the_omega
They are the scariest zombies maps. I am 22 and they still frighten me the lost because of the gameplay. Having ko pack-a-punch and no reliable ways of training (specially in Nacht der Untoten where you don’t have Juggernog) is what makes them scary.
Secunda_YT
Vanguard zombies was actually launched and thought to be a presentable product and these are the scariest lol
tatkins2002
Nobody gonna mention WW2
modomonstud
WaW verruct had me scared back then. The way some of the zombies ran was crazy and I wish they kept that in chronicles.
Oxipro11
I never thought thought verruckt to be scary, even when I was young. What did scare me, though, was the witches’ house in buried. The eerie howling from the outside would always give a young me shivers, and trying to run through the house, the witches speeding at you and popping in around every corner, trying your damndest to keep your points away from them was always a thrill ride. It’s not so scary now that I run round that map like a playground, but the howling when standing outside the house’s front still makes me tense.
Zaotastic
Atmospheric as hell, especially for the time they were released? Hell yeah. Scary? Not really tbh
Even when I first experienced zombies in BO1 with my cousin who’d been playing for a while, I was more scared when we played Ascension than when we played Verruckt
infamusforever223
I was 16/17 in 2008/09, and those maps still have the scary atmosphere that other maps don’t have.
OL2052
The maps are a lot scarier in black ops world.
Sudi_Arabia
Sure, and you didn’t shit your pants when the panzer came on Round 8 during your first play session of Origins…
LGamerDelta
Bro the scariest map I played is YOOOOOOUUU!!!!

Dogshit post

I remember when I was 11 years old playing farm and I was so scared I was camping near the Olympia wall buy

You must be 12
PopcornIsDaBest
i still find verruckt a scary just bc of its atmosphere, the screaming and crying in the background. motd does come close but personally i never found nacht scary, even when i was younger
WickedRug
not terrifying; very unsettling and eerie
BlearRocks
verruckt is as scary as horror movies go. with the background noises. nothing is scary for an adult anyway..
animalkarma1798
Ngl I’m disappointed that I couldn’t really take in any of world at war’s eerieness for the first time since I was 5 and only cared about shooting bad guys. It’s great in the replays but there’s no first time reaction.
mk55killem
Boi I couldn’t play tranzit when I was younger
ST4RSK1MM3R
Everyone says those were the scariest and yet no one talks about WW2 :/
THX450
This is honestly kind of a ridiculous post.
Those two maps, Verrukt especially, are filled to the brim with horrifying details and tone. It’s more that you’ve gotten used to them or don’t find the game mode itself scary anymore, but that doesn’t mean the maps aren’t still in themselves terrifying.
Take Mob of the Dead. I don’t find myself being scared playing it, but I can easily tell it has a scary tone and design. To someone who hasn’t played it before, regardless of age, it would be scary to them.
Mitchellhd72
the der riese dialogue when you spawn in waw used to scare the shit out of me as a kid
michael_memes_
I’ve been playing zombies since waw nacht and that map still creeps me out, as well as vurrukt. It’s not because of age it’s because it’s genuinely creepy.
Spare-Whereas5358
The mansion and maze in buried was spooky
JohnnySukuna
Yea but like every other map is just not on that level I guess? Except for Kino (a little bit) no other CoD zombies map has or matches the feel of Nach and Verruckt
AcademicAnxiety5109
Scariest is Five Level 3 (Laboratories)
Davona_B
OMgosh I remember being excited to watch my dad and his friends play BO zombies even while being genuinely terrified. I remember having a nightmare about the zombies climbing out the screen when my dad fell asleep during the game. Another time, we went to some family event where it was night. My mama told me and my siblings to get in the car as we where about to leave. All my siblings got out the car and said they were going in the house for something. They started shaking the truck and making crazy noises cuz they all played BOZ / COD and knew that the “creepy crawlers” (Nova 6 Crawlers) scared me senseless. I was screaming and crying…Its funny how I went from being scared of zombies to it being one of my favorite games / game styles ever 😅
Squid8867
I think another big factor was the way we played the game the first couple of times. This was the first time we’d encountered gameplay like this in Call of Duty, so we were fighting the zombies like they were other players. Which meant pumping 2 full clips into a zombie and it’s still tearing down the flimsy barrier keeping it out of your building, with another 5-6 following behind it, not to mention the sounds of the other barriers being ripped down, it was cause for panic.
Prepnoodles
They were pretty darn creepy when you were younger, but when you got older it wasn’t.
Hawthm_the_Coward
It’s just the gameplay mechanics. Replace the sprinting around with a machine gun, with walking slowly with a lantern, and things would instantly change.
sharkeysday69
Nah, they are atmospherically scary. You just don’t think they are anymore because the graphics are outdated now. Also cuz you’re probably a zombies pro and don’t really need to be scared. You know how to play well.
Tompkins-275
Ngl that zombie running toward you in the start cutscene for Nacht scared me enough for ten more years
AlanM6
Atmosphere of Mob when you really take a breather and look around is creepy as hell especially when you look towards off map where the bodies hang.
PSCRAZYPRO
verrukt screams still haunt me
DeceptionCXV
Tbf WaW Nacht and Verrukt is still scary to this day. I’m 23 and I still get goosebumps when I hear the screams and the child crying in Verrukt. And Nacht being so eerily quiet is too unsettling for me. But then you get over it. I still love the maps just as I did growing up.
