I like these settings because they show some humanity and personality in an impersonal gritty city. People making a living, cooking delicious food, creating fond memories for stranger and friends who are desensitized by the noise and hubbub of the megalopolis.
Considering that real estate will be inflates to high heavens in the far future, someone owning a takeout shop not in a megamall but free-standing on a property would be setting off major money laundering vibes for me.
