What’s a map you think gets more praise than it deserves? I’ll start:

Kino; it doesn’t really innovate significantly on anything and what it does that “works” has been done better in the previous map: Der Riese. The main thing Kino did was introduce newcomers to zombies, which was important for the community, but when you look at it Kino is just a watered down Der Riese. Similar layout but it’s much more streamlined, same with the PAP process. Both maps have hellhounds but midround hounds were replaced with nova crawlers which were not only annoying special zombies but didn’t increase adrenaline when playing the map which contributed to its challenge and feeling of reward. All the good wallbuys in WaW were replaced with shittier ones in Bo1 and story wise it’s kind of just a filler map to tie us over to Ascension. Not to say Kino is a bad map but other than nostalgia there’s nothing special about it… except 115; it’s a good song.

Kino. Ascension is boring but it innovated by adding Easter eggs, phd and stamin up. Kino didn’t innovate at all, boring gameplay, bad atmosphere and visuals. It’s a c tier map that was always overrated because of nostalgia.

I think Acension is fine with what it gets, it is a casual map so it’s going to get more praise as most the player base is casual

My hot take on this is probably going to be MOTD, yes ik, but seriously, people literally think it’s the greatest map ever and will die for that. I just don’t get the same feeling playing it anymore and I think most of those people are nostalgic, although I will agree it is a really good map

The only reason I love ascension is because of the atmosphere. I do think it’s slightly overrated but for me the atmosphere always gets me. But yeah it’s kinda overrated.

This is just my opinion, but I never cared for Der esiendrache. It’s one of those maps where there’s a lot to do, but isnt very fun for me to play. It’s dark, it gets boring very quickly and once I play it, I don’t play it again for a very long time. But if you like it that’s coo 👉👈 also origins is number 1 map

    IX and Classified.

These aren’t bad maps, far from it actually. They’re really solid but I don’t think they’re the magnum opus of BO4. IX has a very bizarre layout and the constant spamm of mini bosses make the matches too chaotic (no pun intended). The death of Orion is also a pathetic excuse for a Wonder Weapon. They could’ve done more with the different mythology areas and make it more melee focused like the intro showed.

Classified is fun but it’s just that. It took away most of Five’s charm and uniqueness. Also doesn’t help that the map looks visually really fucking ugly, like the OG Five looks so much better it’s unreal. Treyarch’s obsession of adding garbage, fire and blood everywhere in BO4 ruined maps like Five and Nuketown visually speaking. They look visually cluttered.

  7. Shadows, but you know I would answer that 🤣

  8. Legitimate_Row_4944

Tranzit just the whole thing about it . The Bus and then of course the Avogadro, the fog ,the lava everything, and god help you if you move the box.

  9. Major-Performer141

Der riese is mid. I don’t see why people rate it so high except for nostalgia. Shang too

  10. ThePearWithoutaCare

Main issue with Ascension is it’s too easy. But I suppose it’s good to have at least one really easy map.

In my opinion, ZNS. I don’t think it’s a bad map honestly, but at this point everyone calls it “underrated” even though it’s constantly praised. I see the appeal but for me it’s the worst BO3 map, setup takes forever, too many doors, and the plant system can get annoying. The Easter egg isn’t too bad but some of the map design choices I didn’t like. Yes it aged well over time but there were legitimate reasons for the dislike at first that most seem to forget

I don’t know if any maps do. A lot of time and effort went into these maps and if you enjoy them then you enjoy them. Whilst there’s a limit to how much you can praise Kino it does everything it has to and built on WAW at the time.

Whilst I would say for me I’m surprised at how much people love IX, Call of the Dead, Ancient Evil and Space land they’re all fun maps with good gameplay, atmosphere and unique features that if they click for you, you may love them.

  13. OmarTheEgyptian

Ascention is a great map, but the sole idea of monkeys taking away your perks just stresses me to a degree that is indescribable that I am turned off form playing it in the first place. 💀

  14. Mob definitely, it did introduce the complexity of zombies but that kinda led to bo4 and vanguard

  15. PunchingAgreenbush

Shadows of evil. All downhill from there. Crappy characters, flying mosquitos, the margwa. Horrible map. The only good thing is the wonder weapon. Downvote me all you want but that map is D tier at best

  16. DemonSlaying

This is literally the best map of all time bro

  17. ureakablaa

I know people will hate me for this but die rise I mean I like the map but it’s just too many tight hallways and it’s very easily to die and if you are lagging at all well… RIP on the jumps.

  18. ytpsexer

Shadows for me. My opinion has never changed since its launch. It was a pretty good map being a structural successor to mob. But seeing people going from hating it for being too difficult as an on-disc map to one of the best of all time, needless to say I was a little confused.

I always thought it had a good foundation, but it was clearly missing key notes that kept it from being with “the best”.

While I love the aesthetic and overall theme, it’s districts are not all made in spades. For instance
, other than the train cable or the civil protector part, there is really no reason for the Footlight District to exist. It’s just open space filled with oddly placed cars for you to get body blocked by either meatballs or the man.

I also think the WW is a bit boring. Yes statistically it’s one of (if not) the strongest, but it’s just a Gersch gun. The swords are cool, but require a mundane amount of round killing for you to use it. Kinda the same issue I have w/ IX’s EE.

Finally the characters. Other than maybe Jeff Goldblum being a schizo the whole game, everyone was just so forgettable the only reason people found Jackie Vincent funny was because he was Pickle Rick before Pickle Rick became a thing.

Other than that, I always liked the map. Strats are really rewarding, the other districts work great and the EE is pretty solid with exception to the last step. But I don’t think it was up there with the bests like Mob, DE or IX.

  19. RaYnDaWg1123

Call of the Dead without a doubt. Not a bad map overall but has a pretty bad layout, isn’t compatible with high rounding, and always looks like shit because of the fog. It’s objectively just average but there’s a lot of people who think it’s top tier and I will never get why

  20. Commander_EAA

    Origins

You basically do crap for hours that you MUST look up how to do, it turns into a puzzle game instead of a zombie game. Every single map feature except for power is a fracking Easter egg that is IMPOSSIBLE to figure out in game, nothing in this map is simple. HOWEVER, it has a cool atmosphere, and the whole place makes it seem like a big adventure! And while everything is very rewarding, by the time you get those rewards, you are already bored.

Everyone says this map is one of the best, yet it feels like its made only for the 2% that actually do Easter eggs, I know they are challenging and sometimes fun, but the one in Origins feels like it goes against the gameplay of zombies… just my opinion

  21. Fantastic_Bit2712

    Kino, Ascension, Tranzit, ZnS, DotN

  22. At this point, kinda hard for me to find one map that gets more praise than it deserves. The only ones I might be willing to say are in that category are Origins and DotN, but even then I see why people love those maps and can understand it.

For me personally, both maps get tedious with the set-up. I’m leaning more towards DOTN though since the amount of different locations to memorize is ridiculous and I don’t like the vampires.

  23. Zaotastic

IX. It’s far from the best that BO4 has to offer, and I would argue is my least favorite Chaos map. Simplistic layout, an honestly poorly designed main easter egg, underwhelming wonder weapon despite it looking so cool, and a poor use of the setting. C’mon, that map would’ve been PERFECT for exclusive melee weapons!

Does that mean I think IX is a bad map? Not at all, it’s still a low A for me. I just wish the other Chaos maps got love when they released as well, Voyage is still one of my personal favorite maps and I love coming back to it every now and then.
