This will mark the second time that Shanghai has hosted a Counter-Strike 2 Major.
Chinese organiser Perfect World Esports announced on Tuesday (15 September) that they will be hosting the Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Winter 2027 Major in Shanghai, China from November to December 2027.
While Perfect World have yet to announce the venue, the organiser confirmed that the CS2 Shanghai Major 2027 is scheduled to run from 22 November to 12 December 2027. This will mark the second time that Shanghai has hosted a CS2 Major after the Shanghai Major 2024, where 
Team Spirit claimed its first CS2 Major championship.
The Shanghai Major 2027 will be preceded by two other Majors. First will be the PGL Major Singapore 2026, which will take place from 25 November to 13 December in Kallang, Singapore later this year. That will then be followed by the first Major of 2027, the FiRe Major Buenos Aires 2027, which will be hosted from 31 May to 20 June 2027 in Argentina.
What are the CS2 Major Championships?
The Majors are the highest tier of competition in the CS2 esports scene, with two Majors being hosted in the Spring and Winter every year. Each Major gathers 32 of the best teams in the world and will see them fight across three stages of competition to reach the Playoffs, where the Top 8 teams will then duke it out for the championship.
Each Major features four distinct phases: Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, and the Playoffs. The 32 participating teams in each Major will be determined by the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), with the invited teams also being seeded in the first three stages of the tournament according to their placement in the VRS.
The first three stages of the Major will feature a Swiss System format with best-of-one matches except for the Elimination and Advancement rounds, which will feature best-of-three matches.
Stage 1 will feature the 16th-32nd-ranked teams in the VRS, with eight teams advancing to Stage 2. Stage 2 will feature the eight teams advancing from Stage 1 and the 9th-15th-ranked teams, with eight teams advancing to Stage 2. Stage 3 will then feature the eight teams advancing from Stage 2 and the 1st-8th-ranked teams, with eight teams advancing to the Playoffs.
The Major Playoffs will then feature a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three matches except for the grand finals, which will be a full best-of-five series.
Each Major also features a prize pool of US$1.25 million, with the Major champions claiming the grand prize of US$500,000,
