This is kinda interesting to me.
People always say they want the newest weapons, movement, balancing, seasonal content etc. But then you look at what players are actually downloading and two games from over a decade ago are sitting at the top.
And I dont think it's just nostalgia.
BO1/BO2 had metas. They had OP stuff. They had annoying guns, strong streaks, cheesy setups, etc. But the games still felt like they had an identity. You could play for hours without feeling like you were constantly being pushed toward whatever the current “best build” was. Modern CoD sometimes feels like the opposite: new season → new weapons → buffs/nerfs → new meta → everyone copies the same loadout → repeat.
So genuine question:
Has CoD gotten TOO focused on balancing the meta, or is the modern approach actually better for the game?
And if you could take ONE thing from BO1/BO2's multiplayer philosophy and put it into current CoD, what would it be? Not necessarily a gun or map — could be matchmaking, streaks, progression, perks, movement, map design, weapon variety, anything. Curious where people land on this because I feel like the answer says a lot about what players actually want from CoD.
