I’ve been playing CODM since early 2020, and lately I’ve been wondering something:

Is the game genuinely getting worse, or do we just remember the old CODM through rose-tinted glasses?

Because when I look at the game now, there’s objectively way more content than there used to be. More guns, maps, modes, BR content, events, camos, mythics, etc.

But somehow, the game doesn’t hit the same.
I remember the older seasons feeling more exciting. Getting a new gun actually felt like a big deal. Grinding ranked felt more meaningful. Even just playing random pubs with friends felt different.

But then again… maybe that’s just nostalgia.

We’ve also had years to get used to the game. Things that felt exciting in 2020 obviously aren’t going to feel exciting after playing for 5+ years.

And CODM isn’t exactly the same game anymore either. The cosmetics are crazier, the monetization is much bigger, the movement is more advanced, there’s way more stuff happening on screen, we have fancy ass anime girls running around, the game keeps stacking up so many draws per season plus old ones, the dev has became greedy as hell, and the game has expanded into something much bigger than what it originally was.

So I’m genuinely curious:
If you started playing CODM today with absolutely no nostalgia for the old game, would you actually think current CODM is worse?

Or are longtime players just chasing the feeling we had when the game was new?

What year/era of CODM was genuinely its peak, and why?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who played both the old and current versions.
